So do you turn on some lights so your camera can focus on the corals? Nice shots.
Thanks Marc. The pictures are taken with just the flash. I have to adjust the positioning to get the infra red to read the coral as it is set in the upper left of the camera and often focuses on something beyond the coral. This kind of PE only happens for me with all lights out, even if I turn on a room light the polyps retract some.

I like! Very nice shots.

thanks

those PE shots are incredible, pete!

so hows the weather been up north. i see you talking about icy roads and such. its been fairly cold down here. i was iin georgetown yesterday morning and as i was driving my granitle load gathered rain water and froze over. nothing like handling ice blocks for 10 hours a day in homes that are so new they dont have electricity. (more importantly, HEAT!)

some of the overpasses were pretty icy yesterday but today it warmed up and most everything is clear now. Good grief I think it's suppose to be back up in the 60/70s in a couple days.:eek2:

Pete, how is your tank doing?

How is mine?

Jay - your tank is looking great :)

I think you give your fish too much food, but your tank is pristine ;)

Tony

things are still looking great - all fish accounted for

PH was 8.41 before I dosed, but I got there late tonight so probably just the lights on effect

I was doing a couple things in the tank getting it ready for me being gone a couple days over Chistmas and decided to dip a couple of the acro's. Sure enough I found a few AEFW's. I'm pretty much convinced that the red bugs must keep them in check as I'm 2 fof 2 treating for red bugs and getting AEFWs.I'll start a routine pulling, inspecting, and dipping all my acro's on a regular basis untill I don't see any more. I'll also need to order a bunch more hermits and other CUC as I think the hermits pick on stuff at the base of the corals including the AEFW eggs

I just got home and wow! My tank has never looked this good. All parameters are excellent, including PH and alk. I've never seen this much PE and growth to be honest. It's almost saddening that my tank does better without me than with. :)

Pete sorry to hear about the AEFW. Count me in on the CUC order, keyscritters was the last one we did. I can use a dozen or so hermits and a few dozen asterina snails. Unless you tell me otherwise, I'll head over your place tonight after 6 to feed and check the parameters.

Thanks for everything Pete, I really owe you one. I added a small amount of kalk to the ATO to keep ph/alk more stable while I was gone, so that explains the higher PH. The SPS apparently liked it, since I've never seen this much growth in a week. I might just keep using it.

PS: That aiptasia finally came out to somewhere I could get to him. I injected him full of kalk paste until he turned milky white as per your suggestion. Here's hoping I've seen the last of him.

jay - that would be great if you can swing by and take a look at things and feed the fish. Take a look at the calk reactor as I think the line may be clogginjg again. I think the dip line clogs when I put too much lime in it, so I think ill cut it back a bit.

I forgot to mention your pocilliapora was on the sand bed but it looked happy there so I left it, plus I wasn't sure if you placed it there or it fell and just happened to land in a perfert position

Watch for the cat, it may make a daash for the door as it gets upset when left alone. I also suspect we may have some boxes at the front door so if you don't mind bringing those in , it would be greatly apppreciated. Hope your trip to dosney world was fun and merry Christmas :)

That Pete is worth his weight in gold. I bet the corals were 3x as big as when you left. ;)

The corals had all grown quite a bit. I don't know how Pete did it, but I had a high alk and low calcium problem that was sorted out by the time I got home. It's sort of embarrassing to see what a better reef keeper can do with my tank.

Yes Disney World was great fun, but there goes my MACNA trip fund for this year. ha ha. I love my kids though, you have to enjoy them while they are young, MACNA will be there next year. Florida was a sunny gorgeous 80 degrees all week, I think we had one chilly night where you had to wear a light jacket.

I'm headed over now Pete since it's after six and your fish are probably waiting to be fed. I will be careful of the cat.

Horrible news Pete, sorry for the camera phone pics. I didn't bring anything else. I tried to call your cell, and I left a voicemail.

1. One of your prize mille corals had fallen into the clutches of a frogspawn (hammer?) coral below. The acrylic rod/peg fell off from wherever it was posted, and the coral was engulfed in green tentacles. The mille has already begun to STN.

As much as I hate doing it, I put my hand your tank in to move it. I don't care for the option, since it feels like I'm violating your baby. Marc agreed that it was probably warranted. I rinsed off carefully first, and gently moved the coral onto a mostly empty shelf above. I let the flow from a korallia gently blow off some of the frogspawn slime.

The frogspawn has at least two damaged heads that were speared by the coral.

2. Your kalk reactor was clogged again. Ph was low (8.1) until I blew in the reactor. My guess is that it hasn't run correctly since you left. The nuisance algae apparently loves the low PH/ALK BTW, it's having a field-day.

3. You didn't leave pre-made food baggies in the usual spot, so I fed one of your frozen spirulina cubes. I fed one teaspoon of the blue pellets as well (teaspoon-size, not the huge tablespoon you had sitting there). I made sure that the 29 gallon got 30 minutes of light, and the onyx clowns ate fine.

4. Your cat tried to escape out the front. Twice. It was all over me the entire time I was there, you have an extremely sweet and personable kitten. too bad I'm allergic.

I hope your mille makes it Pete.

Thanks jay I"m sure the frogspawn will be fine and suspect that the mille will pull through even if it dies off some

Ill check my voice mail, my blackberry doesn't work in the house here as we are pretty remote and I have to step outside to get connected (like now as I type this) thanks for keeping up with the cat and sorry you are alergic as she is very freindly

the mille looks like it will lose a couple tips but over all it looks like it going to fare well - thanks to Jay saving it

the frogspawn has recovered to some extent, one head is still pulled in some but the other one looks like nothing ever happened

before I left my Goniopora was closed up and had not opened for about a week. I suspected the leather was affecting it even though it was about 12-14" away. I move the Goniopora before I left for Christmas and when I got home today it was open and looking very happy. That's two corals that seem to have been effected by being downstream of the leather.

I hope to do a water change tomorrow and use the water to set up some dip stations for the acro's. If everything goes well I'll pull all of them; give them a good inspection and dip them in fluke tabs and/or ReVive.

I'm going to add more CUC. I think I'll place an order for about 200 hermits, some more snails and a few peppermints this Sunday as I'm down to practically nothing and my tank is showing lots of nuisance alga. :(
