a couple readings tieing the probe to my long grabbers

all lights on, lights are mounted 16" above the surface. My lighting plan was for deep water penetration using 5 lumabright mini's

the blob - no less then 510 ~17" below the surface.

3" under the surface under the 400's all readings over 950

front bottom of tank; center and 12" or so on each side of center nothing less then 425. ~32" deep

SPS quick check on upper third of tank were all in the 700's

I'll get more accurate readings this weekend (with and without all lights) - pleased so far

So I decided to take a few different pictures - so these are not the typical straight down top downs (3X250w 12ks and atinics - 400w 10ks were off)

but first the box

the blob from the north

kind of liked the blue tip in that one so tossing in a picture of it

the blob from the south

and the main chips colony above the blob - love that new purple growth

I guess it's a way for me to unwind after the day. It seems like I'll start by looking around the tank, feed the fish, then use the top down box to check out the corals (as they always look best from the top). Then I'll think: I need to get some pictures of that; even though I may have taken some a few days before. At least they give me a good record of grown and color changes. Call me a cameraholic

Love the pictures, Pete. If I had enough room in my tank, I'd be on a covert op to steal frags from some of those colonies. Looks great!

Wow, 425 PAR at the bottom of a tank over three feet deep. That's absolutely amazing, no wonder your corals are growing so well and PE like crazy. They have an artificial sun overhead.

im the same way pete, i love taking pictures of my tank! i dont know what it is about it? my only problem is that there's only about 5 things to photograph and my camera isnt that great.

when i set up the 75 then hopefully ill have a little more to take pictures of? by the way when that time comes ill be asking you to sell me some frags

I was pleased to see the 400+ at the bottom, and over 500 at the blob. Of course you would expect the high PAR readings up high but up till now I had only hoped that I was getting that kind of light penetration.

I guess I missed that you were planning on a 75. Do you have any plans or pictures on your build yet? (I need to go back a few pages on your build, I may have missed it. I thought you were going with another bio cube for ponies)

well ive had this AGA reef ready 75 for like over 3 years now. the thing is BRAND NEW! i lugged it over from california.

i also have like 98% of the equipment that goes with it. MH's & PC's, chiller, CA reactor w\20lb co2 tank, skimmer, 55g sump, pumps and a bunch of other stuff. thats why i decided to get those giant water storage tanks . i just havent set it up because i want it to be well planned, and i want to be able to afford it. im going to put it into my living room wall and thats a project that i just havent been up for. :lol: not in the mood for building walls and running electrical.....

for the cost of the new horse tank i could probably get the 75 up and running.

i havent mentioned it in my thread because then ill want to set it up. if i set it up i wont be able to afford running it when im going through the fire academy. (40% pay cut) first things first. as soon as i get the new career in order then i can move on to bigger and better fish ventures

ill post a my conceptual rendering of the set up in my thread if you wanna go over there and see what i have planned.

On another subject - we are in the pre planning stage for another Ft Worth tank tour, we are looking at mid- late Feb

we already have some awesome tanks on the potential list

i think " distant future" are in fact the key words in regards to the big tank. (as if 75 is big :lol the fire academy doesnt start untill sep. '09. and thats if i make it. if not its another 2 year long proccess.

im from the SanFrancisco bay area. marin county mostly, but ive lived all around the bay. i was living in vacaville before i moved to austin.

maybe ill be able to make it up to ft.worth for the tank tour? ARC is invited right?

im going to put that sketch on my thing now. it took FOREVER to find!

I went to Lowell High school in San Fran and have a sister in Alameda, so the bay area is almost like old stomping grounds

I hope I'm not seeing some bad omens. I got home today and while I was feeding the fish I noticed one of my female anthias had earlier decided to jump out of the tank, unfortunately she was already dead.
That's the first fish I've had jump out of this tank.


Then I noticed my purple gorg was about 1/2 pulled in and looked like it was turning brown. For now I'm blaming the leather as I have no idea what else could be irritating it. Nothing is that close to it so I'm thinking it's something in the water. I been over 12 months since changing my filters out on my RO/DI unit so I check the TDS at the place where I get my make up water and top off water (it's about 70' of tubing downstream of the RO/DI unit). I expected it to possible in double digits but it only read 5 so not so bad. I'll change the filters in the morning.

I finally did a water change today - first one since treating for redbugs last weekend. Both shrimp look fine. The blood shrimp was looking kind of groggy during the treatment but since I started the carbon he has perked back to his usual self.

I hope that gorg perks up.

thats cool! how long did you live in the city for? my wife is from S.F. i almost moved there once but decided against it because i had no car and no job. i was supposed to be living in a friends old chuch store that tanked. i guess people in the mission district care more about dope than religion, who woulda thunk? i had moved all my stuff there but thats as far as i got! i never spent a single night there. i kept envisioning myslef covered in **** begging for money on the street corner like the rest of the locals. that was all it took! :lol:

i have a friend that works for the Alameda County Shreiff. he's a deputy out there, real nice guy!

i really love the bay area, but there's so much that i hate about it that i just couldnt justify living there any more. the cost and the crime rate were amongst the biggest factors of my move. i think the politics and population were next! :lol:

sorry to hear about your fish. i remember when i came home one day to find me longest kept fish stuck to the carpet. i was suprisingly upset considering it was a only a fish. lenny the lawnmower blenny.

and i really hope your corals reverse thier little "mood swing" that thier having! your corals are way too pretty to die!

Have you taken a measurement with only the 250's on? Maybe that will finally convince you to put the 400's on a regular timer for an hour or two every day.

Sorry to hear about the anthias. I haven't had any jumpers yet because of the canopy. So my fish find more interesting ways to die. The last one got stuck in between two rocks and couldn't breathe or move.
