thanks Hop

And for the last snag of the day, this unknown acropora

In the frag tank at Next Wave it had a light purple base with yellow tips. In my tank it's looking like it has a light pink base with tips that change from a light yellow to a light blue. This one may be interesting to watch

just a couple updates

I've been working late the past few weeks and have been noticing that some of my corals seem to have lost some of their color. I was telling SERVO this last night when it dawned on me that since I was working late I haven't been turning on the 400s' (I was turning them about every other day for about 2 hours). Guess I'll have to get them on a timer.

Couple other coral updates

the Turaki was placed a little higher in the tank and in a mater of a few days has started turn a lighter blue baby blue.

what the heck pete, you just have guys like bob fenner and eric borneman dropping by your house to check out your tank?!?!

nice corals! pretty colors :)

These are the guest speakers we had at Next Wave

Dr. Bruce Carlson - talked about fish types and some of the unique characteristics of them

Jake Adams "Water Flow is More Important Than Light"

Eric Borneman "The sustainability of our hobby"

Bob Fenner "The pros and cons of hitchhikers in the reef aquarium"

Unfortunately I didn't see much of them but had some time with them at dinner and lunch. Great guys, all of them.

They never made it by to see my tank, dinner, drinks and conversation ate into our mini tank tour time we set aside for them.

Nice pick-ups!

I've been starting to catch the LPS bug lately as well.

thanks - I've been wanting to get into some Acans but thought the price needed to come down a bit first

next wave is an annual event for dfwmas right? do you have to be a member of dfwmas to attend?

i know, i know, ill check the website :D

Darn, I noticed I called my Acans, Favias, in the post above - haha shows how much of a nubie I am when it comes to these colorful LPS

the ACAN's were looking pretty good today

Other then a few chipped tips the ORA frags look like they are doing just fine. I'll see if I can get some top downs later today to see if I can get a decent view of their colors

They look really good, and great pictures to boot. The last one that you called "basic favia" is a favia, but I imagine you knew that.

thanks crvz :)

I was in process of taking some first day pictures of the ORA frags and decided to take a side shot (top down style) picture looking from the right side of the tank. This was the first time I took one from this angle

In the center is a blue polyped montepora digitata
top center is Marc's unknown acro
on the right side are the Ricordia I was killing off
and on the bottom is the green/yellow stylophora
the left side is out of focus being further away but includes the dead zone on my smaller chips colony
the unknown acro from SERVO (yellowish green)
and the A. Austera from SERVO

Here are the ORA frags (some of the tips are a little beat up but should recover nicely over the next few days)

What kind of frag plugs are those black ones? Hard plastic?

those are ORA plugs, I'm pretty sure all their frags are mounted on them, and the plugs seem to be exclusively theirs so it's probably a way to assure authenticity

From what I understand they are a hard rubber or rubber like and are a real pain to cut.

That Bellina is a new one to me. And your red planet is significantly different in color from mine. I like your new additions.

What is this about a calcium reactor fund? For some reason, I thought you had one.

I can't believe you are killing off ricordia. I'd love to keep some alive. Maybe they'd do better in my main reef instead of the angled tank.

I have a Kalc reactor and want to add a Ca reactor sometime this year. Right now I run the Kalc and 2 part

On killing Rics; they take over real estate and sting the Acros. Some of the Yuma's I have can be pretty aggressive and tend to want the same space as my orange Floridias so I'm usually doing pruning in a few places. Here's a picture of a rock I just cleaned of about 10 Yumas that started on the back side but started to over take the orange Floridians in front so I sliced them off and sterilized the back side of the rock with kalc paste.

Looks great Pete. It was nice to finally meet you at Next Wave :)
Thanks and it was nice to meet you also - always good to put a face to a name

you know some of us will pay you to ship those rics down to austin... ;)
I may do that, I need to get my softy box going again. I plan to build one out of black egg crate and hang it on my overflow.

you guys should consider making a Ft Worth run, we are in the planning stages of a tank tour in late Feb. But even if you can't make it then, if your ever in the area drop me a note if you want to come by and see the tank.

I wired up the 400ks to the RK2 using the high amperage expansion socket, so they should kick in every day now

With the 400s on, I decided to take some random shots

Small Chips colony (back side died off form the stylophora)

The Prostrata looks happy from its fall into the frogspawn but needs to color back up. It is mounted about 4" lower then before so coloration may be different then before

Marc's Mille - side shots don't do it justice as it is very colorful from the top
