Sounds like an excellent plan, that should lower your calcium and stabilize your alk.

As for flow, have you considered looking into the korallia magnums yet?

Jay - thanks

I did look at them but that's about it. Right now flow upgrades are not very high on my list as I'm pretty happy with it. Flow is so strong my fish can't swim a straight line in there if they tried

That's ok to disagree, you'd just be wrong :) ... those are my guidelines. Two parts calculator say 1.4dkh, 50ppm on ca and 100 mg. I cut those in half just like I do any manufacturers dose on things that could impact the tank, except calcium which I follow directly.

Sounds like a plan on the fans etc. just dosing consistently will help quite a bit.

Dave I actually think that's pretty sage advice. slower changes are always better regardless.

In this case I thought 2 DKH over 2 hours would be fine, I was also looking at PH swing. My miss conception was in reading about people taking there system up to 4 with out issues and over that some people see burnt tips.

In this case all other corals had no noticeable negative impact from me trying to bring it up 2 DKH, and I only ended up adding enough to bring it up 1.5 DKH according to the calculator. Given the results I think I got a bad initial read on my DKH.

As for the coral lost I'm speculating it must have gotten a saturation of low PH or high Alk, as I added dry baking soda to my sump. I never saw any but I suppose some precipitation or undissolved baking soda could have even come in contact with it. But, for the coral to completely STN in mater of hours also leads me to think the coral may have already been under some stress and I'm thinking too much light.

thanks - and you and Marc need to have a pow wow

Ohhh I like those covers! I think I want some for my laundry room outlets now. Do they have a specific make/model?

I'll have to look up the make/model when I get home

but if you do a search for:
"In-Use Weatherproof Receptacle Cover"
you will find a bunch of them

I'm pretty sure the ones I got can go horizontal or vertical, but they make them either way and I know they have the double ones also. They also came with a plate with different punch outs for single, duplex or GFCI (rectangle)

We already split the universe between us... I get what I want and he takes the leftovers. He is just needs to be reminded that I am the head honcho from time to time :)

Definitely dissolve... get a gallon jug measure out 1 and 1/8th cups of baking soda. Add half of this to the jug, cap and shake vigorously.

Repeat above with the remainder of the Sodium Bicarbonate.

If you get any off intact, I'd be happy to put a couple in my front tank since the rics seem to be doing well.

Marc - even if those don't make it there are some on the bottom of my tank that are attached to rubble.

sunset monte update

the sunset monte looks to be doing well in its new home. It hasn't lost any color, polyps always seem to be out and it started to encrust nicely

thats a pretty frag pete!

maybe i missed it in the past few pages, but is that crazy messed up chromis still alive?

he didn't make it, we don't know what happened he just went missing one day. I suspect he got nabbed by the lobster or one of the banded coral shrimp

Probably the black chromis hole. I think I have one too. I started with 3, moved to 11, dropped to 6, added 6 to 12 and now am down to 3. I've only found 2 chromis corpses, so I fully believe there is a black chromis hole leading to another dimension!
