I still love the Blob! It looks like its doing quite well! How big is it now?
the pictured area is about 5" x 1" x maybe an 1 1/2" tall. Most of the growth has been where it continues to encrust the rock it is on, overall the encrusted area is about 8" x 3". It is a slow grower but it's also 24" deep in my tank. Considering it was a free hitch hiker and I almost killed it off while treating for AEFW's I'm very happy with it :)

i like that first side shot alot!

thanks Chris :)

I like it because it makes my tank look full :)

that darn new coral decides to STN again. It was doing just fine the past few days so I thought it was finally starting to settle in and then this.

That is pretty interesting Pete. I watched most of it trying to figure out why my corals retract from that much flow... Even your frogspawn is getting way more flow than mine, but mine retract if I try to take it higher than I am running now???

off to turn up votrec....

interesting observation Hop

I will note that the frog spawn get a lot of their indirect flow from the flow accelerators bouncing the return off the front glass

AS you can see in this first picture my overflows are in desperate need of a good cleaning

rightoverflow.jpg

So I went to work scrapping the sides, and pulled the top section of the durso's to give them a good brushing off.

The gunk on the bottom of the overflow must have been about 2-3" thick, so I decided to use a 1/2" piece of PVC pipe and some vinyl tubing to siphon the stuff out. The first 5 gallons went okay but while starting a siphon on the second bucket I sucked in a half a mouth full of residual junk that was in a loop in the hose. YUCK - I swear I swallowed a sponge. :mad2:

semi cleaned - or good enough - blah
I'm going to go gargle some Listerine or something to get this taste out of my mouth

Ugh Pete, that happened to me once while siphoning detritus out of the sump. Once you feel a copepod wiggle in your throat, you'll never do it again.

I use a small powerhead attached to a hose to start the siphon. :)

that happens to me about once a week during my routine water changes. i really wish i was able to use a pump to drain water from my tank but its so small that it makes it impossible to get any of the detritus.

i like that video. looking at still picture all the time i forget that there's flow moving through the tank!

by the way, i really want to learn how to put a vidoe together like that where you have multiple snipets cut together with a ongoing soundtrack. i dont even know how to take two different scenes and put them together to make one continuous video. is that something thats fairly easliy explained??? :D

Yum! A nice shot of tank crap right before bed. Puts me to sleep every time.

well maybe if I washed it down with a glass of wine or a shot of something ....

But Jay, I fail to see the adventure in that:rollface:

the ones I'm posting here are all done in Photobucket. I'll just download the individual clips from my camera and use the Photobucket utility to join them, add titles and music. Another free utility is Windows Movie Maker. The Photobucket one is pretty limited on what you can do but it does seem to handle any format that is stored there.

anytime Chris

hey - we are doing the tank tour next weekend on the 28th.

several nice tanks, a couple stores and BBQ after :D

I cleaned out the other overflow tonight, here is a picture of the nice clean water I pulled out after scrapping the sides and sucking the gunk out of the bottom

dirtyoverflowwater.jpg

probably some excellent starter bacteria, pods, brittles and who know what else is in there

gross

bottle that stuff up in expensive looking dark blue or green glass viles, and people will pay premium dough for it

I wouldn't leave those buckets uncovered, no telling what may crawl out :D
