Don't play the innocent Pete. You know you want to come over and see it now.

haha - if my passport was up to date, I'd bring the pizza and beer

haha - leave it to Marc

wasn't that some "b" movie spoof of dawn of the dead, where a bunch of valley girls had to fight off zombies?

Did you google it or see it:smokin:

I'll admit you got me there, the name rang a bell but I wasn't sure, suspicion confirmed by Google. But I do think I am guilty of watching it way back when. I'm an old science fiction buff and use to love watching the good old sci fi movies as well as the cheap spoofs. but then I also liked watching the Three Stooges

See I knew I liked you;) Always up for some sci-fi and my wife is a fan of "b" moves... So it makes for interesting times here on movie night... I think my kids are warped.

haha

At least my son appreciates the old sci fi flicks and he use to even get with his buds and have "b" movie nights, but I think they did more gamming and had the movies on as a backgorund noise

sweet - just got word my Ca reactor & Co2 tank came in

Ah, now you're in for some trouble. Enjoy setting it up!

But I don't expect the regulator to come in this week so I'll probably just get the shelf built and my make a run to DNA to get the Co2 tank filled. I'll give you a call either way.

Let me know, I'm always up for a trip to DNA.

Hey, our area is so freaking big, you can travel a long time before you encounter these things you call humans. Pete and Anthony have been trying to get me over there for months.

I've been trying to get Marc over to my place to look over my tank for some time. I can really use the advice of the famous "reef whisperer". Marc can tell you if you have a mantis shrimp just by looking at your tank. :)

This having people coming over and helping makes me want to move to DFW;) Too bad a hate large cities filled with people:lol:

Pete and I went on an "LFS Tour" last week. Both of our wives were out for the day, so we visited three different LFS for the fun of it. I had a blast, there's nothing more fun than spending the afternoon looking at corals.

Ah, now you're in for some trouble. Enjoy setting it up!

It's possible that I may be picking up a Korallin reactor this weekend, so that leaves two of us without a clue as to how to run one of these things.

I'm kinda hoping we can somehow beg, bribe, or kidnap Marc this weekend.

This weekend is the TMAC conference, but perhaps Sunday afternoon would work out for both of you.

Kidnap it is then. ;) :D

Sunday evening is fine for me, I'll give Pete a call this afternoon.

Thanks a million in advance Marc.

(Edit: Just waiting for Marc to make fun of me for saying how great and easy two-part solution is. Yeah, I'll never get sick of adding this stuff, it's easy!)

I got my results from the lab today, I was surprised to see the first 2 numbers, so now I'm wondering if I had a mini cycle from the plate coral dying off. Nitrates are also about twice as high as I normally test with Salifert

Other then the first 3 and Boron everything is about normal.

I'll have to read up on boron and what to do about it.

what I find odd is my Alk and Mg

I thought Alk would test lower and Mg higher

alk at 3.51 is in the high 9's dkh i(f I'm doing the conversion right). I thought it would be in the 7-8's as it usually tests at home. And I would have expected to see Mg at least 1350 or more.

Ammonia (NH3-4) ........................ High.......................................... 0.001
Nitrite (NO2)................................ High.......................................... 0.010
Nitrate (NO3)............................... High..............................................0.6
Phosphate (PO4) ..........................Good ........................................... 0.02
Silica (SiO2-3) .............................Good .............................................0.5
Potassium (K) ..............................Good ............................................ 367
Calcium (Ca)................................ High............................................. 504
Boron (B) .....................................Low..............................................1.2
Molybdenum (Mo).........................Good .............................................0.1
Strontium (Sr) .............................Good .............................................7.8
Magnesium (Mg) ..........................Good .......................................... 1241
Iodine (I¯)...................................Good ........................................... 0.04
Copper (Cu++) ............................Good ........................................... 0.02
Alkalinity (meq/L).........................Good ........................................... 3.51

Yeah, that would be 9.8 dKH for alkalinity.

Boron. Who cares about boron? That's barely an element. It's #5 on the chart... http://chemistry.about.com/od/elementfacts/a/boron.htm

Periodic Table of Elements: http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=7445&rendTypeId=4

So is Nitrate 6ppm?

Potassium is very good, as is Calcium. Even alk is good.

Just look at your happy tank, and think how lucky you are. ;)

thanks Marc

all the test results other then the Alk are in mg/L or ppm

Nitrates are 0.6 mg/L or 0.6 ppm
specific detail test results for Nitrate:
Nitrate (NO3)
Natural Seawater Value: 0.050 mg/L
Acceptable Range: 0.000 to 25 mg/L
Tested: 0.6 mg/L

Which lab did you use? I'm surprised they state that 0.6ppm nitrate is high. I think a lot of people would be really happy with that. ;)

Pete has a half a dozen tangs fouling up his water, frankly I expected the nitrates to be a bit higher.

Pete, is Boron one of those impurities you were talking about?

I used AWT. I'm also surprised they indicated it's high maybe anything over 0 registers. Looking at ammonia and nitrite; those are also low but desired to be at zero and they say they are high

ammonia should be zero, or least I always thought that and I'm pretty sure my test kit won't detect 0.001 ppm. Ammonia should be converted rather quickly so even if I did have a mini cycle a few days before the test sample was taken, the ammonia should have been gone. So I'm thinking the sample may have been slightly contaminated with surface scum or fish poo. Or, maybe the lab test is just super accurate to a point it doesn't matter.

Not so much Boron, my main concern is Bromide, it was not tested for. I had thought the tests included Bromide, a impurity in Dowflake. I am concerned with long term buildups. I'll have to do some study and see if there are hobbyist test kits available that don't cost a fortune.

I built a removable tray to set my reactors in. I built the edges up about 3" and lined it with a shower pan liner, so it should be good for minor spills
newreactortray2.jpg

I also ran a new mini manifold over to the reactor area (I included a spare valve that I may work into my future water change set up)

here is the feed from the main manifold, it's the 1/2" vertical on the right

and here is the new mini manifold

The area below the reactors will be home to a future water change tank. I’m looking at a plastic tank that’s 37 gal (18" X 12" X 30")

and the wood area on the tank stand to the left of the reactor tray may be where I work in my electrical (ORP/PH controller, timers switches etc)

I still feed the Kalc reactor from a 1 gal reservoir shown above. It fills every 6 hours limiting the tank to 1 gallon of kalc water in a 6 hour time period (max 4 gal a day)
