Petland's New Display

We did get an ORA order in last week so we have a handfull of frags now, (Fuzzy green acros, red planet table acro, pearlberry, verde acros, orange digi, some caps, and a few others)

but we sell nearly all of them from week to week. There will be another order placed in the next week or so.

Keep in mind also, if there's anything specific you're looking for, even ORA stuff, let us know. We can throw it on the order for you if it's available.

Guys just a friendly question...

Why don't you put all these ora frags under better lighting? When I was in there they all looked browned out and not very appealing.

Are you going to move them into the new display?

for the most part, those ora frags don't stay long. by the time we have our colonies up in the display tank our coral tanks in back will be fitted with a number of T5s. slowly but surely.

what nobody wants our LE Brown Slimers?! we're working on it guys!

Im good on LE brown slimmers, what I am in the market for is a rarely seen in the trade LE Great White acro! I would prefer the white with white polyps, but would settle for white with brown polyps! :D

So we took a big step today. The peppermint shrimp and cleanup crew that we through in on monday have survived and appear to be just fine so today we added a few green chromis. So far so good, they appear to be loving life. For anybody concerned about the stability of the tank, we've been monitoring it a couple times daily and all is well. The spike occured almost immediately because all of the water, rock and sand was already cycled before it went in the tank. That with cultured bio wheels in the sump. Our last spike was minimal and all is well. With any luck we'll have it at full steam in a couple more weeks. I think we're counting on our lights this week or first part of next so that will be nice too.

new ballast arrived today and we're ordering new bulbs tomorrow for all three lights (plus a couple for me, might as well tag along for the free shipping). the back to fixtures will still be the 175 watt bulbs while we went with a 250w for the front one. wattage per gallon is looking to be a little over 3 watts per gallon. doesn't sound like much but the colonies will be placed accordingly.

we already had the ballasts for the two, and i guess since we are fighting for every dollar theyll give us it was the best we could do.

Ron is funding the project Eric. I would much rather had 400s on it but what we have will give us almost 3.5wpg. The better news is we're fitting the coral tanks in back with 8x54 T5 HO bulbs. Much better than the turds we have now.

just as a side note... the wpg is pretty ridiculous and means nothing/

With that being said, I understand your financial situations. We just can't resist the 400W suggestion over that beautiful tank.

i agree that the wpg is not much to bank on, it just gives a general idea. thats why i say we'll place our colonies accordingly. i would love the 400w as much or more than anybody and if it were my store that tank would be sporting 4x400w. but its winter and my money tree isn't looking too hot :(

So an update for anybody still keeping track. We've ordered new bulbs...a couple times.

First of all I need to compliment the guys from aqua cave. Quality customer service to the max with great products. I have ordered a couple things for my tank over the last couple months and have gotten the best treatment. So I wanted that to carry over into what we're doing at the store. Their prices are right, shipping is $4.95 or free once you hit the $175 mark and I have received regular shipping orders as soon as 2 days after placing my order. Prompt service for the right price, I don't think it can get much better.

Now on to whats been going on. We ordered 2 Ushio 175w and 1 Radium 250w bulbs last week. Ushios look amazing but the Radium wont fire. We test the BRAND NEW ballast, andy stuck his finger in the socket (im not joking) and judging by his reaction the ballast is just fine. So I call up Albert at aqua cave and he tells me they'll test fire another one and send it our way. Sure enough, 2 days later the UPS guy drops off our new light bulb. No fire. So we're assuming that the ballast (Coralife 250w HQI) will not fire a Radium, as it will fire XM bulbs. I called up Albert last night and he's sending us a new XM 20k and I expect it will be here monday or tuesday. Assuming all is well, I expect to have pictures posted ASAP.

We got anxious and added some things and all are doing well. 2 ORA Clams and a 6 line wrasse now call that tank home and seem to be loving it. As soon as we get our lighting situation corrected, I am personally driving to Des Moines to pick some coral for that tank, I can't wait any longer.

Any updates in the last 6 months?

I did notice that some of the caps are looking stressed when I was in there a week or so ago...

-Eric
