PFO Electronic Ballast?

Hi,

I've a 150W HQI double ended bulb (10K Kelvin) that I would like to use in my hood. I'm currently deciding whether to use the regular PFO ballast or the PFO electronic ballast. I've done a bit of research. The concensus is that the regular PFO ballasts are very reliable. But I've not found any information on the PFO electronic ballast. I'm in California. As you know, the electricity cost a lot here. This is the primary reason I'm leaning toward the electronic ballast. But before I order, I'd like to know the reliability and longevity of the electronic ballast. What are the positives and what are the negatives of the PFO electronic ballast. Thanks for your time and input.

Hi Al,

The PFO standard hqi ballasts are very reliable, very rarely have any problems with them. There electronic ones have been out for about 1 year and so far no problems, although we have not sold too many. The ballast PFO uses in the electronic one is a Reliable Ballast brand and seems to be around for a while on the market.

The main plus with electronic a energy savings and a smaller and cooler running ballast. The actual bulb output and heat from the actual bulb would be pretty much the same.

There is always more change of an electronic ballast failing compared to standard, but i would say you are pretty safe either way with PFO.
