photocell question

first off are these things good...? i just picked up a 2nd hand single controller and photocell for my 6000. in a month or so i will get another 6000 and a multi. anyway where do u mount the cell? it says in the beam of the light...? can it be stuck to top lip of tank? does it shut down when tank lights ALL go out or does it shut off pump when MH shut off but actinics are still on...?

It stops the pulsing and keeps the pump at the lower knob setting for the night. It will generally only work when all the lights are off or only very dim ambient light is present. It can be stuck to the trim, just be sure it is clean to get good adhesion, it has a sticky side on it.
