Phuzzykins' 300 gallon AGE Build Extravaganza

Thank you!

The fish room floor is 100% fine. It's sealed and painted concrete, and the walls next to my sump are waterproof, with a nice thick bead of silicone between the wall and floor. Minor floods are inevitable, so I just planned for them.

My display tank is sitting on a tiled concrete pad that extends about 8" beyond the stand, so minor drips and splashes there aren't an issue either.

yeah thats how I have mine done now, my real bad flood in this hobby happened when I still lived on the second story of my apartment...i've since learned from my mistakes

Awesome Trigger!!!! The tanks look'n good man, lovin it!!

Thank you!

As the fish get a little more settled in and less jittery, I'm able to get better shots of them. The trigger is a gorgeous fish. :D

Wow Phuz! A lounger with a spectacular tank....who woulda thunk it! Im subscribing.

Why are you going to switch to 5' T5's?

The primary reason is that I can't adequately cool the 3' bulbs once the canopy is skinned, unless I were to put big holes in the ends of the canopy for fan intakes. Those ventilation holes would ruin the look of the skin, IMO.

The 5' bulbs, even staggered a bit, give me enough room to mount a fan at each end that blows along the length of the bulbs.

Hmm... something ate some of my zoas. My money is on the rabbitfish going after some tasty algae and getting a mouthful of zoa along with it. :/

Not much news to report... I've been slowly working on rebuilding my T5 setup, and am about 2/3 done with that.

I have a male McCosker's wrasse and a male Filamented wrasse in quarantine now that are doing well. I had one female Filamented DOA and another that only made it about 24 hours in quarantine, so that sort of dashed the hopes for a harem of them.

Something took a couple of bites out of my toadstool leather a couple of days ago, and I'm assuming it was the rabbit based on the size of the bites.

Very nice! :D

O/T, but what kind of camera/lens are you using? Your pictures are amazing.

Thank you!

And no, it's not O/T at all. :D

I'm using a Canon EOS 20D body, and most of my tank shots are taken with the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 1:1 macro lens. A few were taken with an EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6zoom.

For fish shots I generally hand-hold the camera in continuous drive mode with Servo AF, ISO 800, and program auto exposure. I shoot 50 or so frames and pick the best.

Coral macro shots are usually on a tripod, ISO 200, manually focused, single shot with a shutter release cord.

I'm still learning all of the tricks. :)

Cool. Do you usually post-edit them to touch-up? I'm a newb to the camera scene but your pictures are inspiring (and just maybe your tank, too). ;)

Not usually, no. I run them all through a program called BreezeBrowser to convert them from RAW files to JPEG. This app also corrects the colors to 10k, adjusts the levels, corrects lens distortion, etc. I don't usually do anything beyond that befoe posting.

I try to make sure that what I post is representative of how the tank would look if you were standing in front of it.

Very nice build! Your fish room and control panel are very nice, very well organized. And of course the display is beautiful. Great scape and the livestock is looking great. Keep up the great work and keep the pics coming.
Thanks for sharing, Dave
