PhytoFeast or DT's?

I've got plenty of softies and 2 clams. The Kenya Tree seems to be exploding more than anything right now.

I'm using PhytoFeast but have heard about alcohol and sugars being put in there.

Just curious about everyone else's use and results...

Neither nor, Rod's food. Has DT's in it. On piece does it all.

DT's is the only "live" phyto other than home grown. I wouldn't use the PhyoFeast. I'v got 12 clams and some other phyto feeders, works for me.

I'll be finishing up this batch of phytofeast and make the switch to DT's.

I dont know how Phytofeast can say there's no sugar in their product. You can smell it as soon as you open it.

Honestly, besides Rod's, I can't tell you the last LFS I stepped foot in.

So no, I can't. My comment is based on a few folks I know that are using it. I'm pretty sure you can buy it direct, just doesn't have the website set up for it yet so you have to email the guy.

Yah. Agreed. I got some Tigger Pods and ArctiPods from the Reed guys and am very happy with them. The tigger pods multiply fast. The Arcti Pods make the fish go as crazy as Rod's food does.

I will say that on a personal level I much, much prefer and trust the folks from Reed, and strongly doubt claims such as the one above that DTs is the only live phyto available. It is going to be personal choice in the end, for the debate smacks of the Aqua vs. Emperor debate in different guise.

Partially, it probably depends on the defintion of "available"....I know Phyto2 is a live product, but it's not readily available like DT's is.

How often do you feed your main tank with Tigger Pods Ostrow? You go through a couple bottles a year?

I don't feed Tigger Pods. I used a bottle to try to boost my fuge after I went on an ultimate-unsuccessful flatworm killing craze. The FWE I hurt my microfauna population, though the removal and discarding of all macroalgae hurt it more. Tigger Pods were a fast way to add life to the fuge. I'd add another bottle if I had one handy, but nobody I know locally sells the stuff.

PhytoFeast is pretty available though. You see it around though honestly I can't recall where. I've never seen that Phyto2.

I get Phytofeast from Advanced in Schaumburg but I am going to try some DT's next time and look for a difference.

Thanks. No guarantee at all that those shops stock any of the products, much less the Tigger Pods. Plus, 1/3 of those stores I've never heard of and wonder if they still exist/are storefronts, and 1/3 I'd positively never go to.

Odds are strong if those places carry anything it's just the phyto but worth a call to the one or two that are within striking distance, so thanks again.

tigger pods are a no-no if you have fast flow through your fuge. I have a 40 gal fuge and a 1,100gph return pump. Even with my fuge half full chocked full of macro the tiggers don't have enough power to advert the flow and they get swept away. They need very slow flow to survive.

What if you use a tube to put them in your main tank behind the rock where the flow is low? I have had pods reproduce naturally in my tank and they generally stay in the low flow areas of the tank.

They either got eaten or swept away. Either way it was cool to see.

Ther is no phyto in the mix, only DTs oyster eggs. DTs phyto would be as usless as many other phyto products on the market if it was froze.

Im not going to get drawn into a long debate, but I use DTs. Knowing fist hand what is involved in his product, and also knowing what the test results showed (from independant labs) of many other products, I am very careful of what I will and wont put into my tanks..
