pickling lime in mouth

Hey all,

I just started my kalk bottle above my tank and got a mouthfull of kalk (made with Mrs. Wages). I have two tubes in the bottle so I blow into one to start the syphon, but this time there was too much kalk in the bottle and it came out the starter tube.

Just a stupid, freak mistake.

How dangerous is kalk? Should I call poison center or something? I rinsed out my mouth quickly, but I have a sore throat.

When dealing with a caustic chemical like that, just call the poison center already instead of hoping you don't die before someone happens to answer an email...

Did you rinse your mouth out with about 20 gallons of water? You said you had a sore throat... Did you swallow any? If so then it is definate trip to the hospital to get your stomack pumped before it gets holes in it. Personaly if it hit my mouth it would be a trip to the emergency room in itself.

Hey all,

Yes, I'm o.k. Thank you for all your comments. I called the Poison Center and they were helpful.

They took it seriously, saying that it is extremely caustic. However, since it was dilluted (as Kalk) and I washed my mouth they said that I should be o.k. as long as my sore throat didn't turn into pain (in which case I need to go to the emergency room). I'm swallowing fine and feel o.k. now. Crazy. Just a sore throat.

Stupid mistake, I guess I need to make sure I don't fill those bottles too full so it doesn't back out the air tube.

The part about pickling lime that I don't like is the dust. A person should be wearing a dust mask & safety glasses when pouring the powder. Because it is so fine, cheap dust masks may not even filter it.
