Here are pics from my trip to Catalina Island, three weeks ago. Water was 58F and we had about 20 - 30 feet visibility.

i would be too worried about Great Whites, hell i am stressing enough about just going snorkeling in June down in John Pennekamp.

Very cool pics

DodgeDude99,

Even with being in active diver, the odds are much higher for dieing sitting on the toilette...I wouldn't worry about the sharks ;)

Only shark I've ever seen off Catalina is a baby horn shark.

Pretty docile, didnt seem to mind being handled. That was at 100' depth.

nice picks its a change from the caribbean scene was that yellow fish some sort of damsel

Its actually bright orange, and yes its a large damsel called a Girribaldi... the state fish of California :)

That was actually several different ones in the pics. They are pretty bold and will swim right up to you. They love it when you crack open a sea urchin and give them a snack.

Sweet Garribaldi's!!!

I gotta side with Dodgedude, looks a little creepy. Beautiful pics!

Thanks.. I'm still pretty new at taking pics under water. I was using my Sea & Sea DX-1G with dual strobes.

where was the pics taken, first I thought it was at the point, but I didn't remember ever seeing gorgonian there... Ill hold my comments on holding the shark and chopping of the urchins...

That day we dived Isthmus, Eagle Rock, and somewhere else I dont remember the name of it. If you were referring to Casino Point, yeah thats not it, I dont do shore diving at Catalina.

Great pics :) I love catalina. I do have a question. Was you buddy wearing a hood? If not he is crazy.

He's been diving there for years, and never wears a hood. You're not the first person to call him crazy :)

I only wear a surf cap when I dive there, and a Pinnacle 5/4mm wetsuit. Hoods and 7mm wetsuits make me feel claustrophobic.
