Great pics as always Brad! Do the lori and flavoguttatus get along ok? I've read the flavos are mean....

Our flavos picked each other off...we were left with one fish out of our trio. IME, they're timid except with each other, but they're gorgeous:

Greg: Has your female gotten aggressive during it's transformation to male?

I had one that became an absolute terror during transformation. Just wondering if it was a fluke, or if it is to be expected during what has to be a confusing time for these fish...

She was a terror as the dominant female (she had an entire tank of females cowering in the corner at the LFS), and when we lost the male, she changed sex. We kept her for about 8 years or so...and without other anthias, she was a model citizen.

With respect to Ventralis anthias, I believe I read somewhere that they are a somewhat deepwater anthias and thus need a little cooler water temps in order to have success. Maybe 78 degrees or a little lower? Can anybody confirm that? Bradleyj, at what temperature do you keep your tank? I kept a pair of ventralis about 10 years ago and they never ate for me so its interesting to see that yours are eating so well including pellets.

I have kept my pair of ventralis for alittle over 10 months now. My tank range from 72-74.

wow..i would be hard pressed to keep my tank that low... mine runs around 81 most of the time.

i've noticed ventralis like (i use like, as i dont know if its "need") the temp around 72-76 degrees. i've noticed if it goes a little higher they tend to get skinnier. IMO their metabolism speeds up at higher temps. The most beautiful pair i've ever seen resides in 75 degrees.
