Pics of my 'new' reef

I see. There is a lesson to be learned here, I have several bubble-tipped anemones that will do similar hide-and-go-seek days with little concern. However now I know to be a bit more proactive in finding them when they do vanish...for precautionary reasons.

How many different color sinularia do you have in there currently? Also, did you have to reduce the amount of circulation you had coming from your twin closed loops now that there are more softies and less SPS?

Looks great mixed reefs are the best! SPS are awesome for the die hard reefer, but to the average visitor to your home they will like the mix better.

Hi McGinnis- I have a few shades of green, with the brightest green being the Palau Green tree nepthea that I raised from a 3/4" frag. You can see this on front right up high. I also have a yellow and a few variants of whites. I'm looking for a pink version and have heard of an elusive orange.
Yes, I did cut back my flow by about 50% actually. I simply turned the main ball valve at the Darts down by half (MDM rep says the Dart will handle this decrease in volume without any problems). That still allows for about 4000 gph random flow through the 12 changing returns (OM 4 way and 8 way).
The softies and LPS have responded very well and show great expansion.
I was fairly pretty depressed and frustrated by the demise of some of my more prized stonies, but I'm really enjoying this reef with the added movement and shape much better. I'm trying to turn the preverbial 'lemon' into 'lemonade' ;)

Thanks and I agree. I tried to be a purist for about a year but finally realized I was all too often comming home from work and looking at the tank, not for enjoyment, but looking for what 'might' be wrong or what might be STNing ect.. When the tank reached a certain level of maturity and corals were all really taking off, I began to get nervous that something just had to go wrong, so I was a bit paranoid.
Of course, after watching several of the stonies die off, my worst fear was realized but it was a good eye opening and was the final 'push' to go back to what I really enjoyed about this hobby: beautiful corals, movement, and no stress about how 'rare' something is.

Sorry to keep asking questions, and I hope they don't bother you too much....but is that a carpet anenome in your second photo?

Yep, its a baby hadonni, royal blue in color and only about 2 1/2" max in diameter. 3 of them came in with a shipment of larger carpets at a LFS. It appears to be very healthy (showing all the signs of a healthy hadonni anyway) and doing well in the tank. I've only had it about a week though but I'm encouraged so far.

Sorry to hear about your tank crash incident. I have always been partial to singularia and the other leathers since I love angels. Your tank looks even better in my opinion since it appears more diverse.

I can't tell from the pics, are you running BB? Also whats the bioload like?

Sorry, but I never got an answer on the above. Was also wondering if you were doseing anything. Your colors strike me of a zoe or prodibio dosed tank.

Sorry for the delay. I'm running a pseudo BB/shallow sand bed. I tried the faux sand bed method but within two months the bottom was covered in coraline and looked too dark. I added about a 1/2" layer of sand but the high flow moved most of that to the middle of the tank. I've cut the flow down to about 50% and will be adding another 2 to 3 inches of sand fairly soon.
I have pretty high bioload of fish and obviously corals.
I'm not currently dosing anything. I was running a dual chamber calcium reactor but took it offline after a major portion of the SPS died off or was traded off. I may start dosing the ocassional B-Ionic again if the corals look like they need it.
I have not used zeo or prodibo.

beautiful as always...i finally got my 36x36x30 cube last week. like i told you before, i modeled my system after yours. will be making a build thread pretty soon.
I'm honored! Thank you. Can't wait to see your cube up and running.

Any video of your new reef? Sorry to hear about your semi crash...
I am building a 210 cubish, but I will be using a plywood frame. It's going to take awhile, but I saw your tank, and knew that was what I wanted to do. Having more open area seems more natural to me.

Looks great as usual! I like the look of softies, they definetly add to the overall look of a reef tank. And I agree your attitude is great.

Could you PLEASE PLEASE re-post your pics of the tank build and stand build? I am about to undergo a build of a similar tank 3' x 3' and have used your pictures/info over the past year for so much inspiration and information. I feel lost without being able to reference them anymore :( I can even give you webhosting/ftp space to place them.

One of my fav tanks by the way!

Thanks!

I had thought I read that somewhere back. I would still hope he has all of those pics of the setup and stand build. They're all deleted off of photobucket. Curious as to what he's asking for it too :D
