Pics of my reef with Nikon D40x

Great shots- I love the Cardinal one too, as well as the angel. Did you do any post-processing?

For post processing I use HP Photosmart Premier, which is the software that was included with my Hewlett Packard computer. It is a basic software but in addition to cropping, size adjustment, rotate etc, have some nice features to adjust the image for sharpness, adaptive lighting, color and temperature adjustments. For must of the shots there is no need for adjustments.

The best thing I that this software was included with the computer as a freebe!

If there is some dust or small dots I use Microsoft Picture It Publishing to clean the photo.

I am not using a flash, just 670 watts of light. I have two VHO 160 watts, one actinic white and one super actinic. And two MH 175 watts 10,000K Reeflux. Those MH are really intense, very white light good for the photos.

I own the D40 with the same lenses. What setting(s) did you use for the majority of your shots? I have an old Vivitar lens that has macro but I have been having a difficult time in manual mode to make the picturs look good. One day I'll buy a new lens for close ups. JC

Here is a shot using my D40 with the 18-55mm kit lens. Everything is in auto setting.

Here are some settings for these photos.

Full tank shots - 1/20, f8.0 ISO 400
Fish - 1/50 to 1/80, f5 to f8, ISO 400 to 800
Corals - .5 sec., f11 ISO 100
Moving corals (hammer) - 1/40, f10, ISO 400 (pumps off)

I use shutter priority. I set the speed and the camera set the aperture.

jccash I am not sure why your pic is so small, It seems that you have a white balance issue. Your pic looks too blue. Try to preset the white balance with something white inside the tank.

Luisgo, thanks for the tip. I have a lot to learn. I still know no how to up load an Avatar picture. I'll try the settings and see if I can upload a better picture and a larger picture. Keep shooting... JC
