pics of my tank--dial up beware!!

I would imagine that the chicken feed would be used as a Ph and or Ca buffer. It probably helps with Alk too.Its really not a bad idea, may be a little messy though.Sometimes it comes in powder form.

ct-vol,
The chicken feed is about $7 for a 50lb bag. It is ground up oyster shell, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in size. I just put it in a bucket and took a sledge hammer and ground it up finer. Kind of like a large pestle and mortar, then rinsed well. When I first got into SW I tried making some aggracrete rocks and I used this in it and that is where the idea came from as substrate. $7 for 50lbs substrate cant be beat. I can get some pics of the sump as well.

eyebedam-
My wife are planning on going to the meet. Nashville is her most favorite place to visit/party. Our anniversary was Dec 31 so it is kind of a mini vacation for both of us. She can shop during the day, I can do "fish geek" stuff and have fun at night.
We are still waiting on her work schedule but I should be there about 70% sure.
As far as what I am bringing--Zoo and ric frags! I will have pics at the meet so you can see.

vanna101, akrimmel, krzysieks, Thanks and happy reefing!

I have searched the internet for the moonlights that you are using on the side of your tank and I can not find them any place. Do you have a website or link as to where you got them or the brand name? Why are there no wires coming from them and are they battery operated?

Dave, I haven't forgot about you just really busy. It will slow down this week so I will give you a buzz

The moonlights are DIY. They are interior car LED spotlights-2 blue and 4 white. I liked these because you can position them in any spot at any time. I bought the first ones from a local reefer, then copied his idea and made more. The wires are concealed under the lip of the tank.
These lights or similar can be found at most auto stores, mine came from Orielly's. Just cut off the cigarette lighter attachment and wire it up to a 12v adapter. Mine came from an old cell phone charger.
good luck

Thanks everyone.
I am in the process of having a new one built. It will be the same size except in the rear of the tank I am having a 30x1/4 inch section routered out, and an overflow box attached to the outside. I do not like the look of the strainers now. I also want to get the water as close to the top outer rim as possible. So with this new overflow it will be about 1/4 from the rim-as opposed to the 1 1/2 inches now
The new one will also be drilled for a closed loop on all 3 sides, so I will also loose the Seio powerheads YEAH! The new tank wont look so utilitarian
The new tank will be here on Friday and I plan on making the switch next weekend.

My new stand is also going to be wrapped in all black 1/4 inch acrylic with a removable front.
Thanks and happy reefing

I never got to see this one in person yet !

Thats how I built my cube. External overflow with a 15" toothless overflow routed out. I put gutter gaurd up for fish.

Toothless gets more water out of your tank faster and makes the top glassy and smooth.

nUgZ,
I do not think I am going to sell it. My plan for this one is to do a stick tank, after I do some modifications to it. I will have a few months to plan the SPS tank out and acquire some more equiptment.
Both will be in the same room but seperate systems.
The new tank is going up next weekend and the clam is going back to my buddies.
Once he is gone I will have the room to put all of my high light colonies, that have been sitting in my QT tank, back in the middle of the 400.
I will get some new pics up of the new tank week after next

Yeah that clam is taking up some serious real estate in the tank. I can't wait to see the new setup. Make sure you post a link in this thread please.
