i have snails that look like this but have brown/black stripes on them that tend to hang out near my clam. are these bad?

that can depend on what their food source is. they usually have a specific diet, either way they can / will devour that source. some eat clams, others snails etc, etc .....

i would guess that if you saw them, they are not going for your clams. if they were they would be around the foot / byssal opening or under a scute during day and up under the mantle feasting at night.

you best bet would be to try and post a pic :)

Unfortunately the link to ID the difference between them is not working (after 3 years, no wonder).

I had 2 astrea snails that died, but before they die, I could observe some pyramid snails on their shells.

How long can those pyramid snails survive without any other host?

I keep seeing pyramid snails on the glass of the aquarium after the lights are off. Maybe a different kind of pyramid snails?

i had some snails that looked just like the ones in the first picture. they would only come out at night and i could see them in the morning where they would gather on the rocks in large numbers. sometimes turning rocks almost completely white. hardly ever see them on the glass. it was cool to watch them. i kind of miss them. :D i had clams and snails in the same tank and they never messed with them. i guess there must be species that looks just like pyramid snails.
