I have recently been working on a project and thought that it may be useful to share it with all of you and see if I can solicit some interesting and perhaps novel ideas.
The project that I am in the process of planning involves a large solarium/conservatory extension to our kitchen, that will serve to extend this area directly out into our garden.
In undertaking this project, I would like to add some interesting and possibly creative features; which brings me to the issue involving reef aquariums.
Specifically, in-as-much-as the solarium/conservatory will be located almost directly above the existing aquarium, I could rather easily locate a water/aquarium feature in this area that would physically be connected to my existing reef (this would simply require a pump and some 1 1/2 pipe).
The question is..... what interesting feature can I add?
One thought that occurred to me was to, perhaps, add a zero-edge aquarium.
In terms of dimensions, our existing kitchen is approximately 16' wide by 22' long and the solarium extension would add another 18' to this area. The walls of the solarium will be 9' and the peak would be approximately 12'.
There is, of course, the benefit of natural sunlight during the day and I should perhaps mention that conceptually the room must visually integrate into an elaborate garden and the fact that one side of the solarium/conservatory glass walls will border directly on a large pond containing fresh water plants (including water lilies) and Koi. Another benefit is that this water/aquarium feature would utilize the facilities that support the existing 800 gallon reef and perhaps add an additional measure of stability by increasing the overall volume of water.
I should perhaps add that, as I envisage it, there would be defined areas in the solarium/conservatory that would be populated with tropical flowering plants and foliage.
Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions would be much appreciated.
