Pictures of Bomber's barebottom SPS tank and related equipment

Good point jerel.... Ive seen some that can take up to 3 months to acclimate to a system before they start showing any shifts in colors.... Seems that some of the thicker branched sps need more intense lighting than the smaller branched like the Acropora Nana and some of the bottle brush SP that we see commonly....

BTW Bomby.. * Snicker*

Looks like im going to be moving closer to you :D

GET OUT!
you got the job!!!

I have this stupid purple thing with bright blue tips that I swear will grow in the dark.

SO, what's the story???

.....and I suppose Marc can come and visit too

It was a little bitty frag that Sedar sent me, about 1/2". It's about 4" now.
If I can't turn it brown, you can't turn it green. LOL

well,, i have found a investor that is willing to bite the bullet and help me get setup,, so he's wanting me to be local to him.. lauderdale here i come...:)

but of course,,:) My tank has finally taking a mature stage here since the fedex disaster and things are really doing well.. the 44X tank turnover plus the internal 1400 GPH has really proved itself to be worthy...... I have plates of coraline algea growing upward off the bottom of my glass. I didnt have time to do the starboard so I painted the bottom of my tank flat white.. My tortusa has gone insane . the colonies that took a brutal beating are trying to recover still.. I will post some updated pics soon....

BTW .. Ive been adding 15 ml of white vinegar to my kalkwasser per gallon for the last 3 months and the bryopsis that myself and marc had been fighting with is about gone.. I dont think alot of people realize what dumping kalk does.. (maybe 3% probably do ) :lolspin:

Bomber is your 2 hour metal halide photo period the reason for the brown/duller colors? How come you don't want to leave your halides on longer to color them up more? Are you expirementing?

hmm. What about Clams? Do they do better in higher or lower nutrient systems?

Clams like higher nutrients, that is how they are grown quicker. They will still do well in a low nutrient environment just won't grow as fast.

The bryopsis in my tank is almost 100% erradicated now. There might be .5 of 1% left, or less.

Depends on what acrops you're buying. Some of them you have to really blast with light to get them to color.

I had a really nice sky blue milli frag, humilis, another staghorn, a pink stylophora, a pink birds nest, and an acro valida (I think). All had nice color coming in (except the humilis which just got browner). Now they are all various shades of brown. I tried putting different frags of the same species in various parts of the tank, with little overall success in getting them to color up. I have a 250w 10K right in the middle of a 40g. MH is about 6 hours a day, actinics (18w, I think--24" tube) also 6 hours. More actinic maybe?
