hey all...

thanks :)

Mine are not shy about going into any species near them, S. mertensi, S. haddoni, BTA, H. crispa, and a few non-hosting species as well.

Good luck and if this will be your first Anemone and the tank is 26gal, BTA is the best route to take.

traveller- i've heard mixed reviews about how hardy the pink skunks are... what do you think?

i had a sebae for a while but my tank crashed and it died... i've heard your tank must be at least 1 yr old to have a chance with any anemone... is that true?

In my experience the 2 clowns called Pink Skunks, A. akallopisos and A. perideraion, are both quite hardy once established in the aquarium. I would suspect a significant problem with smaller(most frequently available at LFS's) are under feeding, improper initial treatment, etc.

fwiw: here is a picture of my orange and pink skunk pair, please excuse the cyano :>(

Find a quality supplier for your skunks, or other clowns, and I am sure you will find them closer to damsels then "delicates".

If you have not seen the clownfish list, jump over here some time to check them out:

With regard to "tank age" and anemones, Anemones are very highly water based and "cycling", kalk, carbon, waterchanges, etc. can all wreak havoc on them.

Since you asked, please wait on the anemone for at least 9 months, and a year would be better. Then introduce a captive division of a Bubble Tip Anemone. In the meantime, your clowns will be just fine in clay flower pot, piece of PVC, etc.

Good luck.

Love my pinks.
Hardy, but friendly.
I have an LTA and Sebae and they love them both.
I wouldn't put a timeframe on establishment, but your params
need to be stable.
Tough w/ a new 26 gal. and they do get big

I have a pair of orange skuns, the love the Haddon's anemone but pay no attention to the RBTA. Great fish, lots of fun

thanks guys :) so if i got a pair of skunks now would they take to an anemone if i add it, say, 9 months from now?

my pink skunks have been pretty hardy and very friendly always ready to beg for food without being nippy when I am in the tank

They love my xenia - pretty cool since they are very similar in color to their 'host'

I've read somewhere that skunks won't do well in an aquarium if there is no anenome. Can someone shed some light on this? Traveller? :)

My pink skunks have done well with or without an anemone. They intially had a sebae and now prefer a new GBTA. They can be a bit rough with the anemone (as with all hosting fish) so make sure the anemone is big enough to handle them.

traveller, what other anemones have your skunks hosted in?
Mine have not been picky:

E. quad
H. crispa
S. mertensi
S. haddoni
"Borneman Anemone" - picture in my gallery shown with A. percula.

I can't recall them going in the M. doreensis, but the location was not as "cherry" :>)

When no anemone is present, mine head straight for PVC pipe or a tupperware container with sand. Tupperware is a left over comfort because most of my sand loving species are kept in such containers.

Cheers.

In the UK we tend to think of the Pink Skunk as the A. perideraion and the Orange Skunks as the Amphiprion akallopisos.

My A. perideraion hasnt left my M. doreensis for more than a second since I added the clown to the tank, it literally just basks in the tentacles and never leaves. Just see a head poke out every now and again unless its food time then she comes up and sees me at the top of the tank and literally will take food out of my fingers.

Lovely personality IMO,

ya, periderion are pink skunks and akallopsis are orange skunks. ive seen a few pics on this post of people calling regular skunks or oranges skunks, pink skunks. the pinks are easily recognized by their white band by the gills.

anyway, what exactly is a borneman anemone?
