who has em in their reef. had one for a week or two, started to worry about reef safe after i had convinced myself to give it a shot.very pretty fish, long story short took it back to lfs & traded. now wished i hadn`t. only have 5 or 6 pepermint shrimp i see only very late at night. hermits & snails, soft, lps, & 2 clams. if fish wont bother corals or clams im getting another one.
either pink tail, blue throat or red tail. with the latter being $150+ most places. had rather not put down that much if i can get around it.
so what does everyone think?

all triggers can eat inverts and corals. It depends on the fish. Some touch them some don't, it depends. You can try and see what happens

IF you choose one, a sargassm, blue throat or crosshatch are your safest bets. Niger and pink tail comming in second. All can eat your inverts but the first 3 very rarely touch corals/clams. sargassm's usually don't bother a thing.

thanks. have my eye on a sargassm at a few places now. crosshatch way out of my price range.sargassam a little high, but seems to be top choice for reef other than crosshatch

sorry it looks like the red tailed is the same as the sargassum = Xanthicthys ringens

The pink tail is mean and will eat your shrimps .. am taking mine back to the store :D One of my buddy has a blue throat in his reef and he loves it. So am leaning toward the blue throat.

case by case. Mine has been a model citizen with shrimp and all other mates. He gets pushed around a lot and is very passive.

I don't keep shrimp with my pinktail, there are a few dwarf hermits and snails running around, haven't seen him eating any but he nips at leathers. Zoas are left alone.

i could handle lost shrimp & a little leather nipping, but have 2 clams a little worried about those with pinktail. dd keeps having a sargassum every now & then . still havent "pulled the trigger" on one yet. if lfs has pinktail next time i go, don`t think i can leave without bringing it home

finally did it & got 3 1/2" sargussam(redtail) from divers den. will try & post pic soon. it`s staying hid alot right now. comes out for a few & goes back into rockwork. got it wednesday. great looking fish!

I saw an awesome large pink tail trigger at world wide corals last night that I just had to have. So far it hasn't messed with anything except for nori, and I have all kinds of clams, small fish, coral banded, peppermint and cleaner shrimps, a RBTA, LPS's and softies. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he keeps behaving because I am really enjoying having this guy in my tank.

Grats, nice fish. They can be timid at first and are probably the shyest of triggers, but should spend plenty of time zipping around your tank once they get settled.

thanks sardaukar. hoping it would stay out more when it gets settled. thanks for the encouragement. also good luck will! i still think pinktails are great looking & overlooked by many. they are beautiful fish
