Pipefish and Zoas

Hello, to all.

This is my first post in this forum so I apologize if this question has already been covered.

I have a small but decent collection of zoanthids and I was wondering if I could place those zoanthids in a future pipefish tank? I read a lot of material and I haven't seen anything about zoanthids specifically.

Thank you, and if any pipefish owners out there have time I would really like to talk in more detail about your experience.

I keep zoanthids with my pipes, no troubles here. I would be happy to chat with you regarding my limited experience with pipefish.

Thanks hawkfish,

I'll send you a PM after work.

I have a multibanded pipe fish in a reef tank (20 gal) with lps and softies. I have not had a bit of trouble. Now I just got rid of the hammer and two frogspawn because of my tank size and not wanting to limit what I have because of corals that sting. My pipefish is awesome, the only reason I am still in the hobby. We sold a 200 gallon reef and I had a 65 SH/Pipefish setup and my husband and I both lost interest in having such big tanks and dealing with trying to raise SH babies, so we sold everything and set up a 20 gallon tank for my pipefish cause I just couldn't part with him. I do miss my seahorses once in awhile, but I am happy with a nice low maintaince/energy consuming tank.

But the answer to your question is yes, you can have zoas with a pipefish. I have, harry mushrooms, regular shrooms, kenya tree, xenia, star polyps, ricordia and soon will have a nice frag of blastos.

Lori, I will not hold the Steelers picture against you, I am from Cleveland. Anyway, how do you sex banded pipefish? Thanks. I also have one in a reef.

Um, I have yet to hear how, but there has to be some sort of way.

Here we go.... oh thats right, Pittsburgh won the superbowl!!!!

I have my Janss' and yellow banded in my reef. And I happen to LOVE euphyllias so you can image what he's tanked up with in there.

Wow, Euphylia packs a nasty sting! Not good for seahorses, but I don't know anything about pipefish and their sensitivity to stinging corals.

Zoanthus are quite safe. couldn't find a reference to confirm, but I do not think they have stinging cells.
