Pipefish Picture Thread!

I spend 1-1.5 months collecting in hawaii every year. The bluestripes are found all over the pacific even along the tropical coast of mexico down to at least panama. The best colored ones come from africa, hawaii has a dull blue and farther east they tend to lose the blue color, but they are still the same sp, Doryrhamphus excisus.

Thanks for sharing that info about the red striped pipefish. I'm going to go on fishbase.org right now to look at it. I love Doryrhamphus pipes!

Oh, and here's my little pipe, he is a blue stripe D. excisus

wow all these are really making me want to set up a whole nother tank for a pair of these guys

but.... my parents would never have it

I am glad to see a thread on this. I also recently got a redstripe. I have never seen him eat but have tons of pods for him. Do they ever get a belly after they eat? Mine doesn't look skinny in the least but always has a flat belly. How do you determine sex?

hi, Puffer! I just posted in your other thread. Yeah, you're right, the flat belly means it's male. That is where he would keep the eggs. I get to IL from time to time, where did you get your pipe?

I have been boycotting this shop for years but I got it for 1/2 off from Living Sea, in Park Ridge. $35

Still waiting for it to come out, so I can post a pic.

Those are my next purchase.

I just brought home a pair of dragons. At least I hope they're a pair. Any good way to sex them? 1 is thicker than the other & they were hanging out together.
