Thanks Dan

Here's some growth comparisons shot today. Notice all the timeframes are 2 months or less. Staring at these stony corals every day, it often feels like they aren't growing at all. It's another reason I take so many pictures.

ORA Verde - 2 months growth.

Blue Tort - 2 months growth

Birdsnest - 1.5 months growth. The zoom hides the actual size but this one has doubled.

Caught the clowns hosting my frogspawn and torches for the first time. Very cool to see them finally doing it in my own systems. Very uncool when they rub off tentacles that become ballistic missiles and burn dead spots into my SPS colonies.

Update:

I work up at 5am to let the dog out and check on the puppies and my 50g was a warzone.

My "Shatterproof, Guaranteed for Life" Marineland Stealth Pro 300w heater has literally exploded in my sump, sending all sorts of metals and pollutants out turning all the water milky white. The skimmer was overflowing from pulling so much out.

At this point, it looks like a total loss. All my SPS are bleached and RTN'ing. Torches are pulling off the skeletons. Chalices are showing skeleton. I've been cleaning and doing water changes for 5 hours now and I set up a hospital tank for corals to try and save some. If any heavy metals were leached as I suspect, the live rock, sand, sump will all be trash.

If anyone has a Sunday contact for Marineland, I obviously want to pursue a large compensation. All of my efforts have just lead to answering machines and emails. I can be reached at (714) 580 9153 - Aaron.

That is a very sad story. I can imagine how you feel. Was your heater completely submerged? It looks like the business end of the heater was able to expand. I wish you luck dude.

sorry to read about your troubles. I do not have a weekend contact in Marineland but I do have a contact in the company. To be honest with you I don't see them compensating you for the loss of livestock or anything beyond a heater replacement. For what its worth I have never been a fan of those heaters. I suggest talking to the shop owner or manager you bought the heater from, as they would be able to deal with the company for you.

p.s.
Large water changes, lots of carbon, poly or purigen would be the game plan. Let me know if you need any help

I hope I can get something, it says "shatterproof, lifetime guaranteed" right on the box. I have only had it in the tank for 3 days and it was fully submerged up to the "minimum water level" mark.

I spent the rest of my savings to get into this hobby after my move back from Australia. I don't have enough to even replace the live rock let alone my ORA/Tyree/rare corals.

All of my carbon is now in the system. I changed out 3g from just dumping the skimmer cup alone. I changed out 15g more manually and was pulling silver floating specks from the water for two hours. I changed the filter floss as well.

I just mixed up some more water and I'm gonna get out of the house for a while. We'll see what everything looks like when I get back, but right now all my SPS are bare skeletons and the LPS are looking worse by the minute (in the hospital tank).

Regardless if they compensate you or not I would further pursue the matter. Did I read that right, 3 days? That heater is only 3 days old.... They should do something for you...

Wow... this is the SECOND time those POS heaters have crashed a URS Members' aquarium, and about the tenth time I've seen it on RC.

I just ripped mine out of my 5.5g and threw it out. So sorry for your loss bro! :(

I'm so sorry about the loss.

Back in late january, my tank was absolutely obliterated by one of these heaters. it did the same thing yours did. (though my heater was 3-5years old).

I wish you the best of luck dealing with the company.

I know you were just getting rid of zoas, but if you ever find yourself wanting some after your tank is back in order, i will happily donate some.
