pistol shrimp id?

i made a post a while ago but didnt have a picture this is about as good of a picture as i can get. what kind of pistol is this? and im happy after alot of gunfire it finally paired up with my YWG.

Sorry, but "pistol" shrimp belong to a group that has a HUGE number of species, and to get a postive ID on any of them, it would take a detailed examination (in person) by an expert in the field to have any hope at all of being able to say what it is.

We can get some insight from color patterns. This one for example has a distinctive pattern that puts it into the brevirostris species complex. It might be A. ochrostriatus,

Leave it to Leslie!...lol and I actualy should have from the start...lol Care to take a peek at the ones I have online? Theres a few that I will be sending to you as preserved specimens in the hopes they too can be identified.

By the way Twelvejewelz, salt water fish drink a lot, but fresh water fish almost never do.

That's neat...I've always thought it was cool when the pistol somewhat matches the color of the goby

Hey, I'm no expert, both Sammy & Art will confirm that! lol
CAR024 - Saron sp - many undescribed species, usually easy to tell apart by color pattern. It's a female; males have extremely long claw arms
CAR032 - Hippolytidae? - several hippolytids hang out in xenia & other soft corals
CAR038 - Kemponia cf grandis group - I got a lot of similar ones from Saipan & Hawaii

yea me too i love that. when i get a bigger tank im gona try another pair too but its going to be a red and white matching goby/pistol pair.

Because the shrimp clearly has a relationship with a Goby I'd say it's a pistol. Pistol shrimp are known to host with Goby's. It has been proven that the pistol sticks with the goby and allows it to live because it warns the shrimp with poor eye's sight of impending danger. The goby benefits from the shrimps meaty diet. And they seem to be best buds. They have a nice burrow and an adt alarm system set up to gaurd it. LOL.
