I came home last week to a leaky aquarium and ended up changing into a different tank the next morning. During the change i was careful to get all live stock and coral safely into there new home. When i was taking the rock out i could not find my pistol shrimp any where. I then drained the leaking tank and left whatever rock and sand was left over in it and had any left over water that didn't go into the new tank water in my trusty rubbermaid garbage can. Also in the garbage can were a couple of rocks. A week later, i have not had time to empty the garbage can, so its been just sitting around. When i got around to it tonight, i started pulling rock out and i came to find the pistol shrimp tucked away in a rock, Alive. There have been no lights, heater, pumps, foods, anything what so ever in this garbage can for about a week.
My one problem involves getting him off the rock, he's tucked in there good and snaps at anything i try and get him with. Also, is it safe to put him back in the show tank, or is it possible he has developed some disease. I'm not sure if this is impressive or not, but i never thought in a million years a marine invertebrate could live through this?
