Pistol Shrimp

Are pistol shrimp completely reef-safe? I've heard that they might be a threat to smaller shrimp, but i wasn't sure if this is true or not. Also, is it at all possible for a pistol shrimp to share a burrow w/ a jawfish?

Well I have a pistol and it's never done anything to my peppermint or skunk cleaner. Some people have had them kill other shrimp, especially smaller ones, from what I've heard and some people don't like them at all. I don't think it will share a burrow with a jaw fish. Only certain pistols pair up with certain gobies and even if you put the right ones in a tank they might not pair up. My yellow watchman goby and my pistol didn't pair up (When I purchased them, I didnt know only certain species pair with one another) but interesting enough my red serpent star and pistol shrimp share the same burrow with no problems. I don't know why but whatever.

I love our Pistol. The only thing that makes him snap is a large emerald crab that we have that seems to antagonize the pistol. I love feeding time because I will feed the shrimp from the end of a baster and the crab goes down to investigate and then fireworks go off. Other than that the pistol shrimp keeps to itself inside of its burrow. We never get to see it when the lights are on.

Ok well the reason i'm asking is because I can't decide on which to add to my 90 gallon. A shrimp and goby pair or a jawfish? that's why I was hoping a jawfish would share a burrow w/ a pistol shrimp. Right now I have a cleaner shrimp but I plan on adding another cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp in the future so I don't want a pistol shrimp to kill them. Do you have any links to which species of shrimp gobies pair up w/ which species of pisol shrimps?
