pistol shrimp

Thanks to everybody for answering all my recent questions. Anyway, a few months ago I made the mistake of buying a pistol shrimp because it "sounded" cool. Now it keeps moving sand to and from places I don't want. I heard it would be short lived without a goby for partner, but it still lives. Does anybody know of any natural predators or have a way to catch it?

Most probably ou will need to disassemble your rock work to get him out but you can try to trap him with the inverted coke bottle trap. Cut the round portion of a 2 liter coke plastic bottle and place it back inverted as to form a funel into the bottle. Weight it out and put some food inside, most critters can get in for the food but cant find the exit.

I have a pistol shrimp & Yellow Watchman Goby, probably my favorite things in tank to watch. Also, if you get the Goby the shrimp will probably stay in same area with the Goby, find a permanent home, so to speak. Then you won't have it wandering everywhere in your tank moving sand. My Goby & Pistol Shrimp stay under same piece of Live Rock using same burrow. I adjusted my corals to other areas away from this piece of LR they use. If you google "Goby & Pistol Shrimp" you can see some cool videos on them and how they work together. Very, very cool!

By the way, forgot to mention that moving the sand around should be welcomed. on the other hand if your rockwork is placed on top of the sand I agree that buying a sand digger was a mistake.

I guess it's just more of a nuisance than a problem, although it does keep knocking a clam over. I already tried the bottle trick but I didn't know what kind of food to put in so all i caught was hermit crabs and snails.

its going to be tough to catch without tearing down the rocks. My two tigers rarely feel comfortable enough to hang outside the burrow long enough to get anything let alone food w/o their goby friend. I never saw them when they didn't have the gobies. now I see them all the time but they definitely do not stay in one place, they've tunnelled from one side to the other in a 50g breeder. Try a piece of shrimp or squid in your bottle trap, that MAY work. Otherwise try waking up really early and checking the tank w/ a red flashlight and see if its out and about to catch it. Mine used to do laps at night, I know, weird huh?

Try some freeze dried shrimp or something. If you catch it, i would love for you to send it to me! pm me if possible
