Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

How big can a copepod get? Most of what I have is still teeny tiny on the glass and looks like little fleas. But I just found some on a rock in the front that are bigger, 1 mmish, in size. From what I can make out they are brownish in color, seem to be a little wider at the head, and they have two little things that poke out of their butt.
I will never be able to get a decent pic on my phone since they are so small, but any ideas if these are still good pods or if they are the bad isopods?

Might very well be a copepod - some species (like Tigriopus californicus) can be quite large.

sorry i couldnt upload those pics, failed for me, what is this a worm? its like a snail

It's a nemertean - mainly predatory worms. Many just feed on small invertebrates but I would remove it, if it was in my tank...

I don't think it's a Thuridilla because it's too "fuzzy" and not elongated enough. It also doesn't seem to have the shape of the Tambja species I know...but a pic from above would help a lot. I'll guess that it turns out to be one of the timid little Elysia species (which are harmless, and closely related to Thuridilla), but it could still be something more sinister. ID's from the bottom are always difficult, and often impossible.

Cheers,

Don

Snail safe?

Snail safe?

Hi guys. Can anyone ID this baby snail. I have some Trochus snails in my tank, could this be a baby? I caught it just to be safe and need to confirm before I let it back in.

In the process of setting up a Biocube 29, starting to add live rock getting the cycle going. Was looking at the rock today and noticed something on it. Can anyone help me ID this? First picture in the album is the clearest i think.

Usually when someone thinks they have a baby Trochus, they end up having something else. But in your case... you actually have a baby Trochus :)

Cheers,

Do

I purchased some more live rock for my tank and when I was adding it to the tank, I noticed these guys all over this little rock. Can anybody ID them?

BTW, my tank doesn't have yellow lighting like that nor is it that dark. I autoenhanced the picture to make it more visible.

Those are very unhappy palythoas. They may come around with good water quality and lighting.
