Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

Sorry not the best picture but any idea what this is? It started off tiny and now is quite large?
It's a Padina sp. Macroalgae.

I thought bristle worms ate small inverts? I kept finding dead inverts in my tank until I got rid of the bristleworm. Prickly little bugger.

I am new to saltwater tanks and just curious as to what this might be. I think it could be coralline algae, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask you guys what you think. Sorry for the poor photo.

It's a new tank that's been cycling for about a week. It was on there when I got the rock and it's a pretty vibrant purple even if it doesn't look it in the picture. Doesn't look like it's dying off or anything. There are a few different patches of them on various rocks. It's Fiji rock, btw.

Also right above it is quite the odd bit of.... something... hanging out in that hole right above it. I always assumed it was a calcium tube or something (because of how it looks from the side) but having gotten behind the tank to take the picture, as you can see, it's a bit flat and looks solid.

Thanks! I'd guess it's some alpheid (pistol shrimp) or stomatopod (mantis shrimp). Should be easy to tell apart if you look at the head, but it's too blurry to make out in the images...

If it is very small it could also be something in Tanaidacea, Anthuridae or some other small crustacean.

Can anyone identify my latest hitchhikers. I think they are some kind of anenome (one of which is splitting). They have migrated the full length of my tank from some Live rock overnight!

Might be some Thalassianthus species imo...
Majanos shouldn't have split tentacles, which I think I'm seeing here - but might be image artifacts.

Yeah, the images looked a lot better on my phone! Is there an easy way to get good images through the glass? I can never seem to get my cameras or phone to focus properly! I'll see if I can get some better pictures in the morning and hopefully will attach them correctly this time too! Tapatalk doesn't seem to help!

They don't seem to really have tentacles at all. At least not like most of the pictures of majano's that i've seen. They close right up into a ball at times and the 4 that I have spotted so far are all on rocks, not on the sand (though they have crossed the sand to get to the rocks).

Eggs and Stalks

Eggs and Stalks

Brand new 37g tank - about a week and a half into that first cycle and watching it come to life. 32 lbs live rock, 40 lbs live sand.

First pic - brown egg looking things. There are several clusters of them.

Second pic - We call this the "Freebie Rock" No idea what all those stalks are but they have little feathery things on the end. Seems like there's more of them daily. One side of the rock has the light pinkish ones, other side has some red ones. On that rock too are some red leaf looking things. Neat to watch grow, but what the heck is it?

Sorry I couldn't get any really great pictures - having issue with photos and lighting today.

Thanks for any help you can give! I've spent days reading around here, everyone is so good at this. :fish1:
