Pix & ID: Critters that come in your rocks: the good and the bad.

I recently picked up some live rock out of Tampa Bay and I won't be doing this again as I picked up a ton of hitchhikers, mostly good but Im sure plenty of bad. Aipstasia?

and for the record the rock did not come from tbsaltwater.com so nobody thinks I'm speaking poorly of a distributer I am choosing not to say where I got it

just purchased this live rock from a LFS and it came loaded with stuff. I am not sure if any of it is bad ;/

thank you in advance:beer:

I recently bought some "Caribbean live rock" - don't know what location that label actually indicates - from a LFS, and it had a lot of similar organisms to what you are seeing.
On the Tampa Bay saltwater site, they have a slideshow of organisms that covers a lot of what you are looking for.
First coral - cup coral colony I think.
Purple wiry and green shrubbery are different kinds of macro algae. Not something to worry about unless you have no macro eaters, or find a caulerpa hidden in there.

Any chance the coral will survive the itial tank cycle?

My hitchhikers include brittle stars, a few snails, a tiny crab, pineapple sponge, amphipods, a larger black and orange brittle star ( i think)...

Im confused at how all of this is thriving, i thought that ammonia would kill marine life at the cycling level?

Hitchhiker Crab

New to the site but so much great info here ..

I got this lil fella hitchhiked in on my live rock .. Im guessing from those claws I want to get him out before I introduce my livestock ?

Thanks

Friend or foe?

Found a couple of these hanging out in my sump. Can you confirm if I should keep them or discard them. They move awefully fast for a starfish.

So this little guy came creepin out of one of my (his?) rocks last night. He's quite mobile. Looking around I think it's an Urchin? has anyone had any experience with a hitchhiker as such?

I am astonished at all the hitchhikers I've been running across lately. This is my first tank and I am loving it.

One concern I have is that I dont want anybody munchin on him when I add my cleanup crew.... will a crab or shrimp harass him?

Thanks everyone in advance;)
