Do not touch the bristle worms. They will sting.my fingers swelled up like hot dogs for weeks. I use tweezers or hemostats to remove the big ones.
It def looks and feel like sponge. I'm wondering what kind of critter would live in the hole. I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can spot the inhabitantsSure it's not some kind of sponge, and something just lives in that hole which is keeping it clean as it goes in and out each night?

i have those guys in my sand, this was recorded with a 500x microscope looking at my sand bed around 1/2" below the sand line. I did some research but didn't see/find anything.
