Placement of strawberry shortcake montipora

Hey guys,

I have looked high and wide for this info, but I have not been able to find anything solid.

I got this from a club friend and wanted to get your recommendation on placement. I have it high in the tank right now, but it doesn't look super happy.

Anyone here has one and can share their experiences?

Might want to look for "Jedi mind trick" not strawberry shortcake.

In my experience it's a very sensitive coral to any kind of instability. I also believe it likes lower light, at least mine does. It's really cool when colored up. The blue/purple ring can be striking.

I dont know about instability (mine has been pretty bullet proof and has held color the whole time) but I second low light. Mines on a rock essentially on the bottom of my 18" tall tank and has quadrupled in size since I got it.

Awesome recommendation guys. This would explain why mine is looking a bit pale. I have it up top with my other SPS corals. I will be moving this guy down. Thank you very much for your recommendations.

Its funny I've heard many say this coral is bullet proof. Mine is definitely sensitive as heck. Any alk or nitrate issues and its the first one to lose its luster. It doesn't die, but it gets funny looking. I do believe there are different strains of what people call "jedi mind trick". Mine has a smooth base and red polyps when its happy....

Here is mine "recovering" from a spike in nutrients, LOL!

Montipora is the first to show signs of trouble in my reef when params are off, so the notion that they are good starter sps is crazy to me at least. I place all my montis in lower light with the exception of a confusa the size of a trash can lid that is directly under one of my radium bulbs 10"s below the water level.
