ok im a noobie jus got my first SW tank this past week, im going for a FOWLR for now, but later ill try a reef. my question is, are there any plants that can be put in sand and live on low light?

Some specie of Halimeda grow in sand at fairly deep depths. Unsure how easy it will be for you to find these. Ventricaria bubble algae is usually considered a pest in reef tanks, but it will certainly grow on soft sand in lower flow and lower light. With moderate light Caulerpas and Udotea. I'm certain there are red algae and maybe some brown algae that are appropriate, but I can't think of any that anchor in soft sand right now.

How about shaving brush plants. They are more mid light macros, but mine are surviving in a 10 gallon with an 18 flourescent light in oolitic sand, so you may want to look into that for when you have semi-decent lights.

You could probably also get Caulerpa Prolifera to grow in lower lighting, it would do well on the sand, and closely resembles some seagrasses.
