Plate Coral substrate

I have a Short Tentacle Plate that I'm going to need to move from a tank with sugar sand, to one with a coarser substrate. It's that black sand - which seems almost as coarse as crushed coral to me.

Is this going to be an issue? I'm worried about the more coarse substrate cutting the bottom of the Plate as it wanders.

hmm, interesting question. i do know that plates should not be put on rocks because of the possibility of damage to the underside. mine is on the sand bed and i've been surprised at how much he moves around.

I don't think you'll have any problems. When I tried to keep them, my sand was coarser than that black sand, and they had no issues with the sand. (They *did* have issues with clumsy snails and crabs falling off rockwork and bashing them from above. Grrr.)

I don't think you'll have any problems either. I used to have a light dusting of puca shell over the top layer of my sand bed, and corals such as fungia, favia, trachyphyllia, etc didn't seem to mind.
