So I read the first 10 pages or so of this thread and I think I have set up my proposed stock list.
2 percula clowns
1 royal gramma
1 fire fish
2 blue reef chromis

Some combination of the following:
Toadstool leather
Zoas
Frogspawn
Ricordea

This to go into a 55 gallon tank with live rock and 1 peppermint shrimp and 1 hermit crab. I plan to also get a bit more live rock and a couple hermits and snails. My water has been stable and cycled for a couple weeks now. Any troubles?

What I want to stock my 29 with once I get it back up and running:

2 perc clowns
1 yasha goby/pistol shrimp pair
Possibly one other fish if this doesn't max me out. Could someone suggest me something that would work with this combination of fish and also in a mixed reef.

I have a 24 gallon Aquapod that has been set up a little over four years. The main filter for the tank is over 30 lbs of LR and some Caulerpa Taxifolia growing on that LR, I also run Chemi-Pure Elite and the tank came with some ceramic media and a sponge filter. Current inhabitances are: a medium sized male Pink Skunk Clown that I have had sense the tanks been set up. An evil Diadem Dottyback that has killed a Diamond Goby and eats any crustacean I add to the tank. And finally a very large Bubble Tip Anemone that I bought bleached and slowly nurtured back to full health.

I also have a 180 gallon that's in progress. I am half way finished making the stand, but I still have to polish the tank and get most of the equipment for it. I am hoping to have it up and running by the end of summer.

I really want to add a Blue Jaw Triggerfish to my Aquapod, would that be ok? I would move it to my 180 gallon once it is ready. I tried adding a Coral Beauty I month ago. It refused to eat and developed a large lump on its side and died in less than a week. That was the first fish I added in over a year. But I found a new fish store that has much healthier livestock and I want to try a new fish again.

Would a Blue Jaw Trigger be ok for my tank? Would it get beat up by my Dottyback or would it hold its own?

Thanks

Wait till you have your 180 set up and running before you purchase the blue jaw trigger. They get very large and need plenty of room.

looking to buy a new QT tank while its on sale at Petco.

10g or 20g(high)?

my DT will be 90-100g.

will a 29g work for a sump?

the 29 gal will work for a sump depending on whether or not you want the protein skimmer in it or run externally. I would measure the footprint of the skimmer if you intend on running it internally

ok im setting up a 55g and would like to know if my fish list will be acceptable:

-2 percula clowns
-1 flame angel
-1 firefish
-2 green chromis
-1 yellow watchman goby/pistol shrimp
-1 cleaner shrimp
-1 peppermint shrimp

dont know if that is too many shrimp or not... but thats why i ask. also would i be able to add 1-2 more fish on top? maybe some kind of wrasse

I think you will be very happy with that crew
2 shrimp is okay in a 55gal
I would add a fairy wrasse and stay away from the six line esp with the fire fish in there

Hi capn,
First thank you for your contributions of advice to aid us in stocking our tanks.
For ourselves, we are nearing the final fish additions and would like your advice.

90 gallon RR with megaflow model 3 sump
Current fish
1 adult yellow tang
1 adult marine betta grouper comet
1 juvenile mandarin dragonet

Next fish to introduce (these have all finished QT and are waiting in a 55 gallon to go into the 90 gallon)
1 juvenile regal/blue hippo tang approx. 4.5 inches currently
2 oscellaris clown juveniles (mated?)

The purchase we would like your input on next is:
2 melanurus wrasses (would like 1 male and 1 female both medium sized)

I know it sounds like a lot of fish in terms of inches of all the combined fish,
but most of them are peaceful, grazers, and not so much meat eating with
the exception of the comet, clowns, and wrasses.

For CUC we have 3 astrea snails, 2 large nassarius (1 laying eggs all the time).
Would like more cuc but not sure what is best to go with these but definitely not getting hermit crabs.

Please give us some advice on what you think of the fishes as well as cuc.
We would like to add a few cleaner shrimps at some point as well.

TIA

I personally wouldn't put a hepatus tang in there -- they just get too big. Might have some issues with the 6 line and the Mandarin (( even if it is from ORA, have a feeling it would still require some pods )), but not sure.

Thanks! And you're right, I was thinking I might have to remove my wrasse if I was dead set on getting a mandarin. Are there other blue fish that might be more suited to my tank? I'm in need of some blue... My dream fish has always been the Powder blue, but I hear they're just too difficult and get ich at the drop of a hat.

I personally wouldn't do a powder blue in anything smaller then an 180. As for a blue fish...off the top of my head,

Argi dwarf;

Less blue, flameback dwarf,

And lastly (( more difficult to find and to get eating )), venustus

Granted, all dwarfs can be coral nippers, but for me they are worth the risk.
