so I'm planning on having a 25gal cube, thinking about stocking it with...

-helfrichi firefish (is it possible for it to be a pair?)

-diamond watchman goby

-royal gramma.

Its going to have a 10-15gal sump with skimmer and refugium, is the stocking too high?

New 65 Gallon!

New 65 Gallon!

Hi all! I am brand new to the hobby. I have a RedSea Max 250 System (approx 65 gallons) with 65 lbs of live rock and 60 lbs of live sand. Right now my tank is in the 3rd week of cycleing. I'm planning on building a coral community, but of course I need to start out with some fish.
These are the fish I am thinking about getting. I will list them in the order I plan on adding them to the tank.
1) 3 Green Chromis
2) 2 Fire Fish
3) 1 Tail Spot Blenny
4) 1 Highfin Perchlet
5) 1 Banggai Cardinal Fish
6) 1 Black & White Occellaris Clownfish
7) 1 Coral Beauty Angelfish

Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

Capn I wanted to get your opinion on the ORA Mandarins. Would you recommend putting one in a 50 gallon display that is 6 months old? Tank has the medium CPR Fuge for pod production, but it would be nowhere near adequate enough for a wild caught mandarin.

Current stocking is:

McCosker's Flasher Wrasse
2x Bangaii Cardinals (captive bred 3 months old)
Helfrich Firefish

Pomacanthus Annularis

Pomacanthus Annularis

Minimum tank requirement?

Seeing everything from 50-100.

From my understanding it is best to purchase them as a pair, as opposed to just getting 2 random ones.

Personally I am not a fan of diamond goby's -- don't seem to last more then a year -- even in a 75 they seem to stripe the tank of food.

The royal should be okay, but put it in last, they can be aggressive.

[welcome]

I personally would skip the Chromis, every time I have tried them in a group one would kill off the others -- seems to happen more in smaller tanks.

See if you can get the fire fish as a pair -- like I mentioned above.

I would get 2 B&W O's -- but that isn't needed, just like pairs of clowns.

Yes, the royal's are aggressive, really aggressive at times. The firefish I've had are (and notorious for ) jumping out of the aquarium.

I personally wouldn't do a powder blue in anything smaller then an 180. As for a blue fish...off the top of my head,

Argi dwarf;

Less blue, flameback dwarf,

And lastly (( more difficult to find and to get eating )), venustus

Granted, all dwarfs can be coral nippers, but for me they are worth the risk.

Oops, I forgot to write that I have a flame angel also. Two angels in one tank is a big no-no right?

It is possible, but would be harder with the flame already in the tank.

I currently have a Golden and Venustus together. In the past I had a Potter's and multicolored together -- both cases in my 58.

The thing is you have to be prepared if it doesn't work out -- best to have another tank to move one of them too. My Potter's hated the Golden (( not surprised, given the similar colors )) and had to be moved to another tank.

So I guess I shouldn't risk it. Any problems with the bioload? Do you think I might be OVERskimming?

Not familiar with that skimmer, but unless it is a HUGE one, I don't think you will be overskimming at all.

The bio-load would be on the higher side, but would be fine with water changes and the like.

how would I purchase firefish as a pair? do I just buy 2 from the same place at the same time?

Also, are there any fish you would recommend me replacing the diamond goby with? What about a lawnmower blenny?

Thanks :)

I have seen them from time to time in the Diver's Den section of Live Aquaria.

I feel that a 25 cube would be too small for a lawn mower, but there are other blennys that would work - a tailspot comes to mind.

the yellow watchman goby/pistol shrimp pair is a good choice

I love my Lawnmower Blenny, its great. They are very active fish and are very comical and will perch some

55 gallon rubble zone

55 gallon rubble zone

skimmer, live rock, mixed rubble substrate...planning rubble zone aquarium(you could look at my thread too)

5-7 Allen's damselfish
1 Striped Fang Blenny
1 male or 1 male/2 female McCosker's Flasher Wrasses
(all eat plankton...could I feed them cyclop-eeze??)

1 Randall's Prawn Goby
1 Orange Tomini Tang

I have a 29g biocube and am just thinking about possible future tankmates. I currently have a pair of tank raised ocellaris clowns and a tiny green clown goby.

Do you think I'd be able to get away with adding 1-2 more smallish fish?

Here are some I'm interested in - please let me know which would work out the best (and if you have any other suggestions, lay them on me!) :)

Firefish
Bangaii Cardinal
Blenny (midas, lawn mower blenny, etc)
yellow assessor
6 line wrasse

Thanks! :)

6 Lines are too aggressive, I don't recommend them to anyone. Firefish are fine as long as your tank is completely covered. Be cautious with your blennies, some species get notoriously nasty (midas, starry). I would recommend a tail spot blenny.
