Please Help Id this snail

Hi,

Can anyone id this for me. I want to make sure this is not the cone snails type that is venomous. It came with some new coral I added about 2 weeks ago.

Cant see clearly enough to give a positive ID, but clear enough to say those are Not venomous cone snails.

Hard to see from that small photo but the shell looks like cerith snails to me.

if they are less then 3/8" I'd get rid of them and not take the chance as they look like they could be those preditor pyramid snails you find on clams and other snails

cerniths usually have some brown in them

Pyramid Snails, or Pyrams are very small snails that belong to the Pyramidellidae family. They are generally white in color, have a slender shell that tapers to a point, and do not grow larger than a few millimeters. The Pyramid Snails use their long proboscis, which is a tube-like mouth, to puncture the mantle of a Tridacna Clam in order to feed upon the fluids and zooxanthellae cells contained within. A few snails will typically not pose a threat to a healthy Tridacna Clam. The snails reproduce every 90-120 days, and if left to multiply, can cause serious harm or even death to their host in a very short period of time

they also attach to certain larger snails and kill them.. if they are pyram snails

How big are they? The parisitic ones only get to about the size of a grain of rice.

My first thought was pyramidal snails, but I don't have a good sense of scale from the pic.

like I said they aren't very big

If in doubt, I think it's best to remove these guys, or at least QT them.

I agree except that they reproduce every 5-7 days or so. Only 2 will result in hundreds in 3 months

Thanks. I am pretty sure that they are pyram snails now. Once I knew what to google I was able to id them quickly.

Saddly there is no way I can remove these, there are at least 100 in the tank, and I am sure more under and around rocks that I can not see.

I will just have to keep an eye out to make sure they are not attacking anything too valuable.

There are a lot of snails that look thesame except they are free living and not parasites. If you don't find them on a snail or a clam, they are harmless. I got tons of these harmless free living snail and my clams and grazer snail have no problem with them.
If you add a Harlequin Turkfish, it will eradicate them in a few weeks.
