thanks.

Where is the noise coming from? If actually in the sump, use sponges at the exit of the pvc into the sump to soften the water hit. Just be sure to leave a small gap.

It looks like you have two overflows with the exits already submerged? Is the overflow pipe filled up or is it barely full? If it is not full you may try to get a smaller drain pipe to ease the nose.. that or get a stronger return pump to fill the drain better.

Mine was nosisey at first but I took the pipe down from 1 1/2" to 1".

drains are 2 x 1". returns are 2x 3/4". the return pump is eheim 1262. the noise is from water coming down at the left chamber of the sump. the overflow is pretty quiet. should i put a control valve at the return pump and dial down the return?

Are you hearing air sucking, or water falling.

Gate valve, maybe. To control the water speed.

i dont hear air sucking. the loudness is from water coming down at the left side of the sump. so i should put a valve at the return just above the pump?

I'd replumb with the herbie method. Run all 4 holes as drains. In each overflow have one taller pipe and one shorter pipe. Under the tank, put a gate valve on each of the shorter pipes. Adjust the gate valve so that a siphon forms (no air being sucked into the pipe), with the water siphoning at the same speed as the return pump is returning it. Run your return lines over the back of the tank. The taller pipes are just there in case for any reason the return pump pumps water back faster than the drains are siphoning. The extra water will just go down the taller tubes.

I run mine this way and the only sounds are the skimmer's air intake and the slight hum of the return pump. Another benefit is there is no salt spray.
