This is in a display tank at a lfs. The guy working there said it's a Alardi from Africa but I don't think so. It's about 4.5". The school bus yellow is so bright against the black, just stunning.

Does anyone know if the bright yellow coloring on this fish is specific to Clarkiis collected from a certain location?

Fish like this often come from Vanuatu or the Solomon Islands. The Solomon clarkiis usually come in with a very cool brown pattern or very dark black with bright yellow.

But that doesn't mean this particular fish is from either one of those locations.

That is a very beautiful fish. Like the others have said though, the LFS guy is wrong.

I think these are some of the most under rated clowns we have. The melanistic clarkii's are incredible to see in person. Pic's really don't do them justice.

Here's my girl I've had for about 10 years.

Thanks Phender I was waiting for your response ; )

Wow Elegance coral she's a beauty for sure. She needs a boyfriend to boss around though ; )

I contacted ibluewater asking if they can get this color Clarkii for me.
I was holding out for Cinnamon Clowns from the Coral Sea but it seems that ORA is not releasing any for some time. I heard a rumor that they are breeding them into some type of morph similar to the Maroon Clowns lightning pattern.

One of my LFS has a good sized one. Was there a week ago and there was a pair that they had gotten in as a trade in. Listed as a pair of clarki for $45. I did a double take and the larger female was actually a very nice A. Akyndinos. I took just the akyndinos.

I also had a melanistic Clarkii for some time. Unfortunately, she became impacted with eggs and died :(. I agree with EC though, pictures don't do them justice. I can't wait to get another tank set up for a pair.

iBluewater got right back to me, and on Christmas too : ) They had a pair in stock, looked very much like the pic I posted above. It was a large breeder size pair though. I am not interested in breeding them and I enjoy getting fish small and growing them out so I passed on them. They said they may get smaller ones in around Feb or March.

Here in the UK we've had a lot come in recently with just this type of colouration labeled as 'Maldives clarkii'.

I just picked up two from my LFS that are similar to my pic above! Mine have orange on the face, extending to the belly and the ventral fins are completely orange. It's not dark yellow like the above pic but more of an orange. The dorsal fin is black as well. So not the same as the fish above but beautiful and unique nonetheless.

I don't want to post a pic until after I treat them and I know they're ok ; )

What do the ones by you look like? Mine were from Bali so maybe similar to them?
