please show me your t5 only sps tanks

Hi lads,

Maybe the difference is that the T5's displays add lots of prodibio?
My tank uses just two 150W halides, and due to a botch job, they are far, far too high up. (soon to be rectified)

Yet the SPS are all growing nicely. The back glass is getting covered big sytle in coraline, which is nice. I have been feeding the coral a lot.

Opinions?

I have seen a couple...wish i had a link saved for you. I do recall they were using 80 W bulbs....majority of T5 users with less than 24" in depth are using 54 W bulbs. If i had a 30" tank I probably wouldnt be using T5's though(i use them on a 55g/20" depth), which will basically be kept as my prop tank when i set up my larger display.

I'm sure it can be done but the tanks that I've seen that truely are impressive run ALOT of bulbs. For example, the one tank that is around 90 gallon has 18 bulbs. That doesn't seem more effecient then 2 MH bulbs. Granted the color is just as amazing. The tanks that I see run an effecient amount, while nice, just don't dazzle like the others. I mean no offense to anyone on here as everyones tanks are nice. It's just that the ones that make your head snap back are the ones pushing ALOT of T5s.

I say do what you wish and however you enjoy it personally.

out of curiousity for the italian guys.. how are your rockwork? I mean like do you use a pvc shelfing for the corals to be arrange in a shelf like arrangment? I really like your setup so I'm curious ...

Umm....dont think your going to learn all about zeovit and probibio all in this thread...your going to have to research as these system can get complicated.

when i lived in england a couple years ago they sold me on t5s the saltwater shop i went to had big tanks with t5s and the colors were amazing. and ive seen them penetrate 26 inch deep tanks with sps and clams on the bottom so penetration is great.

you dont have to dose any crazy prodbio or add zeo if you dont want to but those methods seem to work well for those that do it, it has nothing to do with the fact that theiir running t5.

for my next tank im planning t5s with a couple MH spotlights for shimmer and so i can hit my anemones with 6500k bulb.

I personally don't understand all of the claims that you need tons of bulbs to make a T5 tank work. I am running 4X38watt T5's over my 38 gallon tank and I personally think it is waaaaay too bright. Most of my corals are bleached and have been that way for some time. The bulbs are not overdriven but I am running individual reflectors.

I am not defending T5's in any way as I will probably do MH with T5 supplements in the future. But for anyone to say that T5's can't bleach corals or have to have crazy amounts of bulbs is just plain out wrong.

I'm gonna add some useless fuel to the fire. I received this coral as a freebie from RM (remember, 1,000 watt MH). It was completely brown. It was so brown, in fact, that I didn't even take a picture of it (and I take pics of everything I get in). A month later, this is the color it became under my T5s.

In fact, its gotten even brighter since that pic, which was taken 2 weeks ago.

I say this is useless information because I have no data to back up the idea that the T5s are giving it the color it has, except that in order for RM to give it to me as a freebie it must've been the same poop brown color for them as it was when I got it, because theres no way they'd let go of a green monti with blue polyps for free, heh.
