This is what I wrote to Reefgeek:

Also this Reef Central member name is Mike alias (solitude) and he resides in Torrance Calf where you all are located. His tank is 60x30x20 (~150g) 3-sided starphire, ATI 8 x 54watt PM which is the same fixture I'm considering purchasing, but my tank is a 90g 48Lx24Dx18H. Will this bulb combination achieve the same look, and work for my SPS dominate tank with some LPS? Please pass along to Greg for review. Thanks Again! I'm looking forward to this purchase, but I just want to get the look I desire without giving up growth and pop. Picking bulbs is a big headache.

Thanks Again,
Michael

Solitude127,

After talking to Greg at Reefgeek, he said the PM 8 bulb fixture would be to intense for my tank. So can you give me a bulb combination for the 54x6 PM that would be similar to yours? I was so close to pulling the trigger on the 54x8, but I'm glad i didn't know. I would have hated to burn my corals.

Thanks,
sbtdark

Dude I run a 10x54W PM on a 48x24x20 and dont burn SPS, zoos dont likt it too much and scolly fade if not shaded, it was worse when BB. got the 8 bulber and play with the schedule with dusk dawn, then ramp to 6 bulbs for a few hours, then 8 for 1-2 hrs back to 6 then back to 2, ya dig?

If it were me I'd get the 8 bulb. As others have said, use the 2/6 split to ramp up the tubes over many hours apart.

8 tubes will provide for an awesome colour combo varieties. I have a 6 tube Sunpower and would have loved to have 2 more tubes to tailor the colour.

Guys I appreciate your input. I went with the PM 54x8 with the same bulb combo that solitude127 has.

Thanks:lolspin:
