Please tell me my Long Tentacle Anemone will be OK!

Please take a look at my attached picture. I have had this LTA for 4 weeks now and the last week he has been shriveled up like this. Every once in awhile he pokes a tentacle or 2 out (like in the picture if you can't see it) but after a bit it goes back in. I know he is still alive but is he on his way out? What can I do? I have a 180 gal tank that has been in operation for 8 months now. All the water parameters are stable. I have a yellow tip anemone who is doing great. PH hovers at 8.0, salinity 1.022, temp 77.5. I am at a loss and any help/advice is appreciated.

No he looks awfull a lta is a sand anemone and that gravel is no good they like to hide foot 5 inches burried in sand move some crushed coral add a couple up to 5 inches of sand inits place.get a 3 inch wide 2 inch tall piece of Pvc tubing dig hole in sand to start put pvc pipe over it then put lta in the hole if he isn t to far gone he will dig and attach to bottom of tank.this is the best way he needs this.what is ur lighting?

Thanks for the quick reply! I have 4 AquaIllumination AI Sol's. I will get the sand in and create a corner for him. Regarding the bed it is not crushed coral but it is Seafloor Special Grade Reef Sand, is this not OK? I would never have put him in crushed coral.

Please let me know if you think I need to get some other sand.

What should my salinity be? I have searched the internet and everyone has an opinion and none of them match.

You can always look up info and requirements like salinity range for your Anemone online.

125 to 126 for anemones.just don't top off as much a d it will slowly rise only way to do this.he needs sand badly to hide that foot and maybe heal if sick.make sure you start a little hole for it and stick foot in and cover the foot with a little sand he might be weak.get this done pronto do not use live sand!

Also do this in a totally exposed spot under direct light not back corner unless it gets direct bright light and no were near the other nem and if u don't run carbon u must with to anemones this could also be from chemical warefare get a good carbon with phis remover In it.you need to do this today if it stands a Chance

Thanks I will, I do carbon & phos so thanks for that as well. Appreciate all the help! I hope he makes it. If anyone else has some advice I welcome it.

The carbon is very important these 2 anemones will fight and I can almost ensure u they alleeady are.after this u can run carbon I day a week or permenantly Wichita is what I do

Yes, however when I got home from work. He looks a little better today. I think it may take a week.
Thanks all for your help. I'll keep you posted. It is awesome I can post a request for help and get such response! THANK YOU!

How does it look today brook?has he dug in the hole.if he does he should be healthy enough to survive.I'm sure the carbon is also helping.

I agree. I would begin by raising the specific gravity to 1.025-1.026. 1.022, is reasonable for fish, but not for inverts & corals. Is there gaping at the mouth? It's quite difficult to decipher much from the photo provided. Typically, the anemone will find a spot that it prefers and bury its foot.

I think he is to weak to find one onhis own and she has a gravel substrate Wich is not good for ltas. They need nice soft sand to bury there foot and the pvc method works wonders trust me
