Plywood aquarium stand

Does anyone have pictures of there planet aquarium's stand or plywood stand??

Just picked up a 215 gallon from them and would like to duplicate there elegance stand lol.

I already picked up 3/4" maple plywood and maple hardwood.

Just going for the modern look... never built an aquarium out of only plywood, usually 2xs like a lot of other people on here. I have been a carpenter for 8 years so not too worried BUT I am no engineer and this is a lot of weight so going off something that is tried and true makes me feel better lol

Bump

Here is an idea I found... sister 3/4" plywood together then skin the outside as shown...

Seem like a solid design? I think 2 members are enough, this guy had done 4!

That's plywood as 2x substitute. It's fine, but misses the point.

Plus the extra effort without a payoff.
Its 3.5 inches wide instead of 7 1/4 like rocketengineer suggests a 2x8.... saves a lot of room. And its straight unlike 2x... I'm just trying to understand if its enough strength wise

Well here's what I ended up with. Not done of course. Hopefully get it done tomorrow or start on the canopy

That looks pretty clean! The only worry is water sitting on it somewhere, but if you keep it dry it should last.

Pocket screws and glue. Every piece of wood on the stand is glued. If you look at my post earlier it shows how I staggered the legs for strength

I built a stand out of 3/4" maple this month as well. I added aluminum angle to all 4 of the side joints as well as to attach the top.

I was a bit leary of the weight and lack of center brace so I added a dry side for electronics into my stand. I believe Red Sea and Waterbox both reinforce their stands the same way.

Good luck to you.

Pics? Did you double layer like I did?

I'm looking at your build here to model mine after. I love this. Did you add any joist members to support the bottom glass of the tank? I can kinda see you added some more support in your sump pic but it's hard to tell.

Oh wait I see some more support in another pic. But it looks like you have two rips of plywood laying horizontal to support the bottom glass panel. I think usually that kinda thing would be vertical, do you feel like it's strong enough horizontal?

Those pieces won't be supporting any weight. All of the weight is carried by the outer edges.

This used to be the case, but tank makers are getting away from that. Newly constructed tanks come with cellular support pads for the whole base of the tank to help distribute the weight throughout the entire bottom glass.
