Plz help me find out what's wrong with my yellow. goby

And just so you know, I am a LICENSED veterinary technician, so don't tell me to think before I speak. It very well may have been flukes but you gave us no information, and you also said that you killed it. And you didn't say that it was during a dip trying to save it. If you had told everyone that then it wouldn't have been a big issue, but the other way seems very harsh. Also, way to escalate things, I don't know where world hunger came into this conversation.

Though only one fish being this heavily infected while all others show nothing seems strange.

the posts are too painful to read so i don't know if the op ever said if all of these fish have been together the whole time or if he added the goby recently. either way, whatever it is will likely show up in the other fish sooner rather than later.

I think I have seen this condition before at some fish at a wholesaler. Though I never had a fish with this myself and can't tell if it is contagious or not.

From all I've seen I can tell that even people with Ph.Ds in veterinarian medicine, who specialize in fish diseases often struggle to identify every disease on the spot and without thorough testing.
Normal Vets deal to 99% with cattle, horses, sheep, dogs, cats, pet rodents and birds and to some (much smaller) degree with reptiles and freshwater fish (mostly koi) or wild animals.
So working at a vet's clinic and having a few saltwater tanks doesn't make you automatically an expert on reef fish diseases.

That was part of my point, I still come here for diagnosing help but unless the op's friend took a sample and examined it microscopically and compared it to a reliable source for id then you can't be certain and saying that it is absolutely fatal without that positive diagnosis and attempting a proper treatment bothers me. I worked with a vet that consulted with the local aquarium awhile back before I moved but that was 2 years ago and we didn't see many saltwater fish in the clinic, I think only 2 and I didn't pay much attention because I was busy, but I did do a lot of the lab work. The likelihood that op's friend has any sort of clinical experience with saltwater fish is minimal, but probably has a lot of first hand experience. Not saying that his friend is wrong, but now there is no way of knowing until the other fish get infected

My vet has salt water tanks and he uses me as his fish doctor. Handy if I need a script, great for my two dogs. Most vets do not treat fish.

A little off topic, but I don't think you have any business owning fish.

You said you didn't want it to suffer but then got defensive about everyone voicing their concerns over the unnecessary death of "just a dumb fish".

Rushed decisions in general will make for a painful road in this hobby. If you come to the forums for help... commit to getting those answers.

I'm fairly new to the forums... I try to respect everyones time and advice, but I also try to respect the hobby too. This whole thread was like a runaway freight train... less than 24 hours since the OP and the fish was killed intentionally. Very strange.

Could have been velvet. Without having Chloroquine phosphate on hand the result may have been the same. Do u quarantine before adding any live animal to the tank? As for the others ranting take it easy. The last thing is to scare off someone who came for help. Yes actions may have been extreme but usually when fish is that far gone most treatments won't help. The mission should be to inform and guide the young Padawan.

I dont think this guy should have pets at all forget about limiting it to fish. If he just kills his pets without attempting to cure the pet he shouldn't own it.
