Pod control?

So I've had my tank up for almost a month, and the little white pods have started to appear. I guess that's a good thing, but there's ALOT of them.
Do I need to keep them under control or anything, or will they just die off?

Everything will slowly balance itself out.... If I remember your tank is smaller so while a fish that would eat pods might be useful, something that only eats pods would quickly starve....

My 6 line wrasse kept all my pods under control in my BC29, but he turned into a total jerk after awhile as well... The upside is he also ate regular food so no worries about him starving...

That's a great food source for a lot of hard to keep fish. Mandarin Goby comes to my mind. I would recommend a Sixline wrasse to take care of your so called "problem." LOL

The only problem being the mandarin would/could quickly consume the pods, then starve to death if you weren't able to get it to eat prepared foods..... Getting them to eat prepared is possible, but it can be a very tough task to accomplish...

Definitely a good "problem" to have though.

Your pods will slow down with time. You should wait this out. While mandarins are awesome I wouldnt put one in a 29bc with your rtba. My sixline is my meanest fish it beat up on a puffer until I removed the puffer. I wont get another sixline ever.

i hate six lines and imo they are not even that good at pest control, pods probably but things like flatworms and stuff not so good imo. there are so many better options for wrasse out there. possum wrasse, radient, yellow coris, melanarus, certain flashers, etc...

Thanks for the advise everyone. I'll give it some time and see what happens. I'm not sure if they eat algae, or if it coincidence, but I have alot less algae on my glass, just more pods :)

I totally agree. That's why I recommended a Sixline Wrasse instead. I know some people say Sixlines are mean but mine is so peaceful. It has not bothered anything in my tank. When it was being harassed by a dottyback half its size, it did not even fight back even to the point of death. I removed the dottyback and my Sixline recovered, thank goodness. All my peppermint and cleaner shrimps are alive. Sixline is my favorite fish in the tank due to its personality. It's not shy and it gets along so well with everything else. My small clowns and other fish regularly swim with him. It will be a sad day when he's gone...

I disagree, he's got a 29 gallon tank.

You better start breeding that thing and get more of them out there... I think everyone I know that has had one had theirs turn into a total bully.... :lolspin:

Not a coincidence. Pods are a great part of your cleanup crew.

Lots of people go out of their way to increase pod populations in there tank.

How old is your nicest sixline ever? When they grow up they are jerks.

I am not sure how old, but it's about 2.5-3 inches now. I hope he does not turn in to a meanie. Sometimes, my female clown likes to hang out with him instead of her husband. She's fascinated with the Sixline's fin display. The Sixline gets really red when it does that. Truly odd.

Mine used to go NUTS right after cleaning the glass and he could see his own reflection really well.... He would sit there for hours staring down that other six line.... :lol2:

I wish you were closer to me I would take some pods off your hands to get my population back up. My sixline decimated my pods population when I had the 70 up and running. In the nano I only see a few here and there when lights go out.

I will never get another sixline. The one I used to have killed two radiant wrasses, two lubbock's wrasses and a firefish.

all the wrasse i listed would be perfectly fine in a 29 gal....

You couldn't put my Radiant into a 29g tank, he's pretty large and far from the largest Radiant I've seen. Most places list a 50g minimum for them and a few of the other ones you mentioned...

I'm actually starting to wonder if mine might be outgrowing my 90g.....
