Pod separate tank

I have an idea, I look at some setups online about copepod cultures and I was wondering would a 1 gallon tank or like a 5 gallon tank with a bubler lighting, a heater, about an inch of sand some live rock rubble and some chaeto algea sorta like a refugium but not attached to the tank display And like a a plastic transporter to transport them to the main tank. Just a thought of a seperate pod grower

you have described a refugium, why wouldnt you want it attached to the tank? why transport them when you can just let them breed and they will make their way into the tank naturally?

Unless you don't have the ability to have a refugium attached to the tank, I agree with leveldrummer, just leverage an attached refugium.

You're better off using straight BB the pods make detritus so u want to be able to syphon it once a week also BB makes harvest so much easier. Reef nutrition sells an apparatus online that is like the kid for a standard 5 gal bucket with filter pad and rigid airline really all the pods need is a steady source of phyto I give mine cheato every now and then but they don't really need all those thrills. It just makes cleaning and harvest that much easier

rI've kept a seperate pod tank for years. 5 g bubbler, heater, and a HD reflector light with a spiral daylight ,cheato, sand and rubble. I throw in algae flakes once in a while for amphods and green water for small pods. I rotate out rubble from the pod tank to the seahorse tank. IAlso filter out pods though a coffee filter and swish it in the tank. This way the sea hoses have a supply. The ones in the rubble are placed in at night and can find a place to reproduce. Having just a straight fuge on the tank the horses seem to eat everything. Separate they produce faster. Just remember to do a small water change once in a while.
I put in a variety of bottled plus get amp/pod combo from reefs2go. You get tons and they have free shipping with a buy one get one once in awile. sign up for emails for specials.

Ok I am really considering this what would I need to start it and keep it running for pretty must ever?

I'm in pretty much the same boat here, only instead of a small tank, I am planning a 30g refuge. I do want to note a couple things. Remember that pods like it dirtier than sps do, so some det. in the pod tank is not as big an issue. Also of note: pods breed exceedingly fast. I started with a ball of chaeto and 2 lb of live rock about 60 days ago in a 20L. I have now also gotten my 58RR up and running. Both have lots of pods from that initial start, the 20L has areas where I can count at least 10 visible copepods per square inch.

I just have a heater and a airstone. I used a homedepot clip on light with a reflector and a daylIght cf. Yes you need to keep it going. I use a small amount of sand rubble rock cheato. I put in algae flake on in awhile and some
green water( you don't need this) and pods. To start.

I have a 10 gallon I used to have as a reef I never broke down. No filter, just a heater and a bubbler. I just use a 26 watt CFL for light. I have found the best way to transfer pods if you don't set it up as a fuge is to get one of those green strawberry baskets, fill it with snail shells, and leave it in the tank a while and then transfer it back and forth between tanks. The pods get trapped in the shells and a fair few transfer over each time. I don't clean it or feed anything special. Just top off and sometimes add a bit of trace elements (grow chaeto and some algae/whatnot as well) and feed just something or other once or twice a week. Honestly the pods just multiply and multiply without my help. I have things in there I don't even know where they came from.

It is not pretty, but it sure does grow a ton of pods.
