Of course Brian. this recording is for the world, but you pretty much have to go through MARS to find it. ;)

Hey Rob

I think putting it on RC and the MARS website meets the club's charitable non-profit obligations.

I'm going to repeat a bit of our conversation about charitable non-profits so the message gets out.

MARS is a charitable non-profit. The deal we've struck with the devil ;), I mean the IRS, is that we will provide a public, not just membership, good and they will give our donators a tax write off. To that end, where possible we must make marine aquarium keeping resources available to the public, not just the membership. Fortunately for us, we already want to do what the IRS wants us to do so its all good :)

Simply amazing! I am all about technology and going forward, I want it to be standard that our presentations are archived both audio and visually where applicable. We have a lot of talent that comes through our doors, and I do not want it wasted solely on the inability to attend a meeting. This is NOT to say you should not come because it will be recorded. Just another venue by which we spread the good word to the masses.

The next step is to put together a process by which we can document how presentations turn into archived media (Podcast, AV files, etc.) so that things are not so ad hoc. Anybody have some lines on documentation material I can plager..um, borrow? ;) Rob or Steve O?

On that note, who was bringing the camera the last of couple of meetings to record the presentation for AV upload?

MrMikeB,

Both Airinhere and myself had video cameras going at Aaron's LR Demo. I wasn't able to make last Fridays meeting, and I know that Aaron was in Florida, so no visuals for last Fridays meeting.

I botched the Dec meeting video trying to get fancy, but Aaron was able to post his video. I'm fairly adept with a still camera, but still learning when it comes to videography. Next meeting I will not try to get so fancy. I recently got an HD videocam so it is of sufficient quality, barring newbie user error!!!

I would like to continue filming Demo's and upcoming Speakers, and I've attended every meeting since I've joined with the exception being last friday's. But that said, I can't guarantee that I can make every meeting, though I'll do my best. :) I know in talking to Aaron that he mentioned that he would like to continue filming as well. Duplication is good.

Also, it would be helpful when commissioning a speaker to come and give a talk, if we could get permission ahead of time,to filming their lecture, knowing that it will be put on the Web. Some speakers may not want to be filmed, which I can understand.

Forgot to thank RasBobre for the Audio file of Kelly Jedlicki. I got to hear her speak thanks to the posted file. Thanks Rasbobre!!

One step ahead of ya - already incorporating this into my standard communication to our guests (Kelly was ok with the recording, as long as there is no commercial reproduction). There are certain things that we will not be able to record given the commercial interests by some of our speakers, but where possible, I would love to have our archive as full as possible.

Thank you for offering your services. It really helps us all out and is most appreciated.

Excellent Mike!

No problem doing the vids. I've gained much information, friends, and corals from having become apart of MARS. So any way I can help to add to the club's value is no problem.
