Pods Eating Zoas

I use reef crystal too. Not a water chemistry expert but reef calcium and mag isn't that high out of the box. But maybe you have a bad batch. Is your salt clumped up

it looks fine. I'm going to make up a small batch tomorrow just to test. Someone else mentioned that. Also using salifert test kits.

Make at least a gallon to test. Don't make it less don't want sample size to be too small

So it wasn't the pods that were eating my zoas. I'm almost certain I saw a spider feasting on one today. I grabbed some tweezers and as soon as I got in the water he took off.

Does anyone have any tricks on catching these guys? They are pretty fast and i've got no idea what to do now. I know its only a matter of time before he gets bigger and hungrier, and i've got lots of zoas.

I don't know about underwater spiders, but crabs look like them, and crabs are fast and inclined to eat what you'd rather they didn't.

Get a liter wine carafe, put the specimen it's targeting in it, at pretty much the same location, tilted so he can get in, but not out. Then check it periodically.

Instead of using the tweezers you might want to get yourself some vinyl hosing. The next time you see one just siphon out whatever you can from a generalized area.

As soon as my hand hits the water he takes off into the rock. not a chance I would catch him with a vinyl hose siphon.

But thanks anyway.

Most of the time he's out at lights off but I will occasionally see him during lights on. I still have yet to get a good look at him but I can see a lot of tentacles. It is possible that its a large amphipod too. I really don't know what to make of this. All I know is i'm not putting any more zoa's in this tank.
